The stats that could sum up a disastrous New York Jets season are seemingly endless.
Whether it’s not having a 400-yard receiver, not having a quarterback throw for double-digit touchdowns for the fifth time in the last six seasons or a returner being named the team’s MVP, the first season of the Aaron Glenn era in East Rutherford was one to forget.
One stat puts the Jets in their own echelon of NFL history, and it’s tough to imagine any team joining them anytime soon.
Here’s what you need to know about the Jets defense’s interception-free season.
Jets interception record
With Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills, the Jets became the first team to finish a season without a defensive interception since interceptions were first counted as a stat in 1933.
The Jets’ takeaway troubles were well documented early in the season, as they didn’t have one until Week 6 and didn’t force another turnover until their 12th game of the season. While New York had four takeaways on the season, none came through the air.

While the Jets faced a healthier crop of quarterbacks than most teams — Joe Flacco was the only injury replacement to face New York — it’s a record that is almost inconceivable considering how pass-heavy the NFL can be.
Quarterbacks facing the Jets defense finished the season throwing for 3,849 yards, 36 touchdowns and zero interceptions. A handful of teams allowed more yards per attempt than the Jets, but nothing about New York’s pass defense with or without Sauce Gardner was promising in year one under Aaron Glenn despite Glenn being a former defensive back himself.

No other team came close to the Jets’ lack of takeaways this season. After the Jets’ zero interceptions, the Dallas Cowboys, Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers followed with six interceptions as a team.
Of the eight teams with eight or fewer defensive interceptions, only two are headed to the playoffs.
Fewest interceptions in a season
Jets fans might be happy to hear which team previously held the record for fewest interceptions in a season.
The 2018 San Francisco 49ers saw their record-low mark of two interceptions fall on Sunday. As some might remember, the 49ers improved from 4-12 to 13-3 the following season and reached the Super Bowl behind a defense that ranked eighth in the NFL in terms of points allowed and second in yards allowed.
That turnaround should leave the Jets with some hope that 2025 disappointment doesn’t necessarily prevent 2026 success, but New York clearly has plenty of work ahead to be more competitive next year.
