If there’s one great idea that couldn’t backfire and result in you losing your job, it’s posting short TikTok-like videos on a professional social platform like LinkedIn.

I’m clearly being sarcastic, but LinkedIn is serious. The company is testing the idea of posting short social videos on its app. With short, vertical videos steadily growing in popularity on other platforms, from YouTube to Instagram, it makes sense for LinkedIn to try to get a piece of that pie, even if it seems like it could be disastrous for users.

The new video was discovered by a LinkedIn user Austin null. From there, TechCrunch contacted the Microsoft-owned social network to confirm that a short video is indeed being tested to reach the app.

In a video demonstrating the new feed, Null showed the video hidden in the app’s navigation bar in a Video tab. Tapping the button starts a vertical stream of videos that you can swipe through. It looks similar to the video ps found on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and others, although the footage should lean more toward professional content than people dancing to meme songs. LinkedIn did not share details about how the feed determines which videos to show users. We have to assume that there will be some kind of algorithm at play that will display videos based on the type of videos you have previously interacted with.

If you come across a video you like, you can like it, leave a comment, or share it with other users on LinkedIn, just as you would with any other content on the professional social network.

To me this seems like a terrible idea and a great way to get fired from your job for posting something you shouldn’t. Anyone who chooses to interact with videos on the platform should be very careful about what she says and does, as additional scrutiny will undoubtedly be applied to the videos. Between wearing unprofessional clothes, saying things they shouldn’t about your company, or even accidentally showing a secret in your workspace, a lot could go wrong for people who post videos.

If the videos are kept within a realm that would be considered safe, they could be quite boring, as playing it safe rarely results in interesting videos. If this LinkedIn feature takes off, there could be some interesting learning videos on the new video channel, but we’ll have to wait and see.
