UPDATE: The Detroit Lions have announced the signing of 15 players to the practice squad. You can check them out in the tweet above (end of update).
Now that the Detroit Lions have set their initial 53-man roster, the team will look to the waiver list and free agency to find any recently released players they believe can help fill gaps on both sides of the ball.
But the Lions won’t just be looking for players to add to the team. List of 53 playersThey will also fulfill their 16-player training squad. Detroit can begin signing free agents for the practice squad, but they will have to wait until Wednesday for players who are subject to waivers.
Players who have been released by other teams and have accumulated four or more seasons are immediately available for free agency. Players with three or fewer seasons will first have to clear waivers before being granted free agency.
After Tuesday’s deadline, the Lions and the rest of the NFL teams have until Wednesday at noon ET to submit their waiver claims. The Lions are expected to be active either on the waiver list or in the free agent market, primarily because they desperately need to add personnel at receiver.
