At some point, there are no moves left to make. For the New York Jets, that point is now.
With contending teams scrambling to address their mid-season needs prior to next week’s NFL trade deadline, the Jets are urged to stand pat even though there are holes to fill.
New York has already taken a few key swings by adding wide receiver Davante Adams via trade and activating edge rusher Haason Reddick. At 2-6 overall, however, their postseason prospects are bleak, and they should probably hesitate to part with future assets in exchange for a potential quick fix.
In his weekly AFC team-by-team assessments, Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine urges the Jets to move forward with what they have.

The Jets already have a lot of resources invested into making the 2024 season a successful one. Trading for Davante Adams and taking on all the money left on his contract was another all-in move. If anything, the Jets need to try and find a home for Mike Williams or another trade asset to recoup some of the draft capital they’ve given up in previous moves.” — Alex Ballentine
The Jets have holes to plug at their injury-depleted safety position and they could also use help on the defensive line interior. At this point, the viable cost-effective options are lacking.
On offense, they could use a reliable third tight end and could explore the low-risk idea of signing former Aaron Rodgers teammate Robert Tonyan off the Minnesota Vikings’ Practice Squad.

At this juncture, however, one could compare making a move to rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Trading Williams away to a WR-needy team is probably the one move the Jets should make before the deadline.
