Liverpool defender Joe Gomez finds himself at a crossroads in his career after his transfer deal with Newcastle United fell through.
The £45 million ($57.7 million) deal, part of a proposed package involving the potential £75 million ($96.3 million) move of Anthony Gordon to Anfield, fell through because Newcastle opted for different financial strategies to comply with Premier League regulations.
Gomez, who is on holiday after playing in the European Championship with England, is aware of the situation and is expected to return to Liverpool’s AXA training centre for pre-season training under new manager Arne Slot.
Despite the deal with Newcastle falling apart, Gomez has attracted interest from a number of clubs, although Liverpool are yet to receive an official offer for the 26-year-old defender.

Liverpool’s possible exit and defensive gaps
Gomez’s departure would leave Liverpool’s central defence in need of reinforcements. With Joel Matip leaving on a free transfer and Sepp van den Berg and Nat Phillips likely to leave, Liverpool could find themselves short-handed in defence.
With all the possible departures, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah are the only experienced centre-backs left in the squad.
