Liverpool appear to have firmly set out their stance over Trent Alexander-Arnold’s immediate future at the club.
The England international is set to begin intensive contract talks before the end of 2024 with his current contract expiring at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Alexander-Arnold will be offered a long-term deal to remain at Anfield, as the Reds look to block interest from Real Madrid amid reports the La Liga giants aim to potentially pair him up with Jude Bellingham in the Spanish capital.
The 25-year-old is eligible to discuss terms on a free transfer to a non Premier League club from the start of 2025 but he will not be permitted to complete a move until the summer.
As the negotiations enter a key phase, Liverpool are widely rumoured to be confident over agreeing a fresh contract with their right-back, and they will not sanction a January exit under any circumstances.
However, as per reports from The Athletic, that will not deter Carlo Ancelotti, with Alexander-Arnold highlighted as a ‘priority’ signing in Madrid.
Other options have emerged as Plan B alternatives, including Tottenham star Pedro Porro, but Ancelotti’s first choice is Alexander-Arnold as the Liverpool-born defender faces a clear – yet decisive – call on his next career move.
Reds teammates Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are also readying for contract talks, with their deals running out in 2025, but the pair will be offered shorter contracts than Alexander-Arnold.
