NBA history caught the attention of Mavericks star Luka Doncic. But his hamstring didn’t want to cooperate.
Doncic was on pace to approach Russell Westbrook’s record of 11 consecutive triple-doubles. The 25-year-old had played seven games in a row in recent weeks, dancing a waltz around the wooden park of the American Airlines Center like a modern-day Baryshnikov.
He looked to continue his streak Wednesday against the shorthanded Warriors. Through three quarters, he was slightly off pace and recorded just three rebounds. On the other hand, with Doncic, quick outbursts, whether scoring, rebounding or assisting, are more than possible.
But that wasn’t the case Wednesday. And after landing awkwardly in the fourth quarter, Doncic was forced to leave the court for the rest of the game. Here’s what you need to know about his status.

Luka Doncic injury update
With 6:46 left in the fourth quarter of Wednesday’s 109-99 victory over the Warriors, Doncic threw a feather to Daniel Gafford. When the Dallas center slammed the ball into his goal, Doncic grimaced. He had landed awkwardly as he put his foot back on the court.
Shortly after, Doncic indicated to coach Jason Kidd that he needed to be taken out of the game. He entered the locker room and did not return, unceremoniously ending his triple-double streak. Doncic finished the day with 21 points, nine assists and three rebounds.
Dallas ruled Doncic out with left hamstring soreness, but proceeded to put the finishing touches on the win over Golden State.
Speaking to the media after the game, Kidd provided a brief update on Doncic’s status. He reiterated that Doncic left Wednesday’s game with hamstring discomfort, but did not offer details.
“We’ll have a better answer tomorrow,” Kidd said when asked if Doncic would travel to Oklahoma City for Dallas’ next game, a nightcap Thursday against the Thunder.

Doncic was a few games shy of Russell Westbrook’s record for longest triple-double streak in NBA history.
While he can take solace in the fact that he is tied with Oscar Robertson and Michael Jordan for the most 20-plus point triple-double streak in league history, he fell short of Westbrook’s famous 11-game mark.
