The Orlando Magic have added a high-flying NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion to their roster.
Orlando enters the 2024-25 season with high expectations. After an early exit from the playoffs last season, the Magic are hoping that the addition of veteran wing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope will prove to be the piece it needs to take the next step.
Head coach Jamahl Mosley has done an excellent job turning the young Magic into a team to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference. Paolo Banchero could be ready to enter the top-20 player stratosphere based on how rapidly he’s improved already.
Beyond being competitive, Mosley’s Magic are also fun to watch, and Orlando’s entertainment value just rose a level higher with the signing of two-time Slam Dunk champion Mac McClung to a two-way deal.
ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news of McClung’s contract on Saturday.
“The Orlando Magic are converting G Mac McClung to a two-way NBA deal, sources tell ESPN,” Charania said.
“The back-to-back Slam Dunk Contest champion lands on NBA roster after starring in G League since 2022-23.”
McClung has won the last two Dunk contests during NBA All-Star weekend, making him just the fifth player in league history to win back-to-back Dunk contests.
The other players to do so were Zach LaVine (2015, 2016), Nate Robinson (2009, 2010), Jason Richardson (2002, 2003), and some guy named Michael Jordan (1987, 1988).
