The Celtics have a new owner.
ESPN’s Shams Charania is reporting that the Grousbeck family is selling the Celtics to Bill Chisholm for a North American sports record 6.1 billion. Last year, after the Celtics won the NBA title, the Grousbeck’s announced their intentions to sell the organization after over 20 years at the helm.
In 2002, the Grousbeck’s bought the Celtics for $360 million, meaning they made a profit of over $5.5 billion with this sale.

In addition to Chisholm, the new Celtics ownership group includes current co-owner Robert Hale, president of Related Companies Bruce Beal Jr., and the global investment firm Sixth Street, according to the Boston Globe.
The transaction surpasses the Commanders’ sale last year for most expensive in American sports history, as Josh Harris bought the Commanders for 6.05 billion from Dan Snyder.

Who is Bill Chisholm?
Bill Chisholm is the Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Symphony Technology Group, a private equity firm based out of California that was founded in 2002 and mainly focuses on software and technology businesses. He also previously founded The Valent Group, and he has worked at both Bain & Company and PaineWebber in his career.
Chisholm was born and raised in Massachusetts, and he went to college at Dartmouth University in New Hampshire, making him a logical buyer of the Celtics organization.
