This week’s new movies on VOD include the family drama. Reverse the cursewritten and directed by David Duchovny, the black comedy Misbehaviorstarring Jennifer Connelly, and the new A24 drama I saw the brightness of the television.

In I saw the brightness of the televisionJustice Smith plays Owen, a superfan of a television series called The dull pinkabout two friends who fight monsters (think Buffy). Owen finds a friend in fellow fan Maddy (Brigette Lundy-Paine) and the film becomes a kind of supernatural journey and a metaphor for Maddy and Owen’s feeling of isolation from their community, as Maddy claims to have fallen for the program. himself and having found his true identity there and encourages Owen to do the same. The film is excellent on its own, but the carefully selected supporting cast is also worth the price of admission.

Reverse the curse

For baseball fans of a certain age, the term “reverse the curse” is immediately recognizable as the mantra of the Boston Red Sox between 1918 and 2004, the era in which the team failed to win a World Series title. David Duchovny wrote an entire novel about the relationship of a father and son, as it revolves around his relationship with the rivalry between the Red Sox and the Yankees (set in 1978, while the curse was still in full swing) and the new movie he stars in, with Logan Marshall. Green playing his son is an adaptation of that story.
