The third season of the British drama set in Mallorca, Spain, arrives Main video With a new batch of episodes following two detectives in a foreign country, should this be on your weekend binge-watch list?

THE MALLORCA ARCHIVES – SEASON 3STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?

Opening shot: Detective Max Winter is watching a televised interview with a man who created a golden compass and then buried it, kicking off a treasure hunt across Mallorca. He calls his partner, Detective Miranda Blake, and informs her that his father is coming to visit, drawing parallels between the man behind the compass puzzle and his own father.

The essence: Two detectives, one from Germany and one from Wales, arrive in Mallorca to investigate crimes committed internationally. At first they are opposites who are assigned less important cases due to the language barrier, but over time they strive to prove themselves at the police station.

What shows will it remind you of? The episodic nature of a team of detectives investigating crimes in windy Mallorca is very reminiscent of the hit American series White collar.

Our opinion: Episodic series are an anomaly these days, so when a new on-screen duo with good chemistry appears, it’s worth checking out. With a new puzzle in each episode, the story doesn’t drag on for too long, a welcome change in a streaming landscape that has abandoned the norms of cable TV.

For a series featuring a German policeman, a Welsh policeman and a Spanish local, The archives of Mallorca There could be a bit more perse intrigue, especially to highlight the different approaches to the characters. Even in the third season, there is little drama between the cops, which would add some interest to the central relationship of the series. The premiere also doesn’t do much to set up what the season’s story arc will be, as it focuses much of its footage on the case of the week rather than the characters’ interpersonal relationship.

An episodic puzzle box show, The archives of Mallorca There are both low and high stakes: In the premiere, the team is trying to solve a murder, but also the accompanying compass treasure hunt. Even if the culprit is predictable, it’s a nice combination that will hopefully keep the momentum going throughout the season, especially if they find a way to weave the subplot into the detectives’ working relationship.

Sex and skin: This one is pretty docile.

Parting shot: The unlikely detective duo sit together looking out to sea, watching the man who tried to betray them dig the wrong area for the episode’s central golden compass.

Sleeping Star: The aforementioned man, desperate to find the treasure and pocket the million-euro prize, is an amusing presence throughout: he fails to help them when their boat floats away, vehemently denies involvement in the murder, and finally traps the two detectives in a church crypt to prevent them from finding the compass.

Pilot’s most typical phrase: “I enjoy the chase more than the capture,” Winter says in the final scene, explaining his mindset perfectly.

Our calling: STREAM IT. It’s a fun, relaxed experience, and you won’t need too much of your brain.
