Oshi no Ko Chapter 159 reveals a lot of shocking information, including the reason for Nino’s hatred for Ai.
The final arc of Oshi no Ko reveals Nino as the final villain of the manga, having given that role to Hikaru Kamiki, Aqua and Ruby’s father, for most of the series. A former teammate of Ai, she was obsessed with the deceased idol and orchestrated her murder.
Nino’s obsession with Ai is paradoxical. While she hates the late idol for stealing her spotlight, she also believes that no one should shine brighter than Ai, even her daughter. This is why she attempts to kill Ruby, but Akane stops her.
While caught red-handed, Nino is interrogated by Ichigo, Ai, and her former manager. Ichigo reveals that Nino was dating Ryosuke, the fan who killed Ai. She must have been jealous and hurt when her own boyfriend diverted his attention from her to Ai. That must be why she planned his murder.
But although Nino denies it, it seems to be part of the truth. Nino explains that she and Ryosuke were both obsessed with Ai. After Ai’s death, when she asked Ryosuke to die, he complied and committed suicide.
Nino’s confession in Oshi no Ko chapter 159 confirms that she has been mentally unstable this whole time and that someone has been taking advantage of her. Akane senses this too and wonders who asked Nino and Ryosuke to do what they did. But even though we never hear the answer, it is revealed that it was Hikaru all along.
While Hikaru being the final antagonist is good for the plot, fans are disappointed with how Nino’s character is handled, especially why she hates Ai. As an X-user commented“She’s so dramatic and for what?”
“Dude, all this drama over THIS? Are we serious?” another added.
“I mean it’s sad. Everyone literally dumped her for Ai but it’s not Ai’s fault what did she do to deserve this? Nino is still in the wrong because there’s no excuse for what she did either,” wrote a third.
While Nino’s story seems to be over, Hikaru’s is just beginning. His nefarious plan will be revealed further in Oshi no Ko Chapter 160, which will be released on September 11, 2024.
