The New England Patriots have spent big in free agency, but mainly on their defense. They need to add more weapons for Drake Maye as he looks to take a second-year leap.

The Patriots signed Stefon Diggs to a three-year deal. He is coming off an ACL tear but can still be a highly productive player. The Patriots have Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper, but that does not mean they will shy away from adding an elite tight end. Sports Illustrated’s Jarrett Bailey urged the Patriots to swing a trade with the Baltimore Ravens for Mark Andrews.

“You could also put Dallas Goedert in this spot and it would make sense, but if the Patriots can get a top-end tight end to upgrade over Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper, that would be a big plus,” wrote Bailey. “Especially for what they want to do offensively. Both Andrews and Goedert can block but are also two of the best pass-catching tight ends in football. If they can be had for a reasonable price, get it done.”

Tight end is not a pressing need for the Patriots. However, Andrews could be a player that intrigues them. He had 673 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. He suffered a season-ending injury in 2023. He had a receiving touchdown in his final six games of the regular season.

Andrews is a three-time Pro Bowler and a one-time All-Pro. He signed a four-year, $56 million deal in 2021. He may not be the player he once was, but he is still a productive target. Adding him to the mix alongside Diggs could be a great move for the Patriots.

He has 5,530 career yards and 51 touchdowns. The final play of his season was a dropped two-point conversion to keep the Ravens from evening up the score with the Buffalo Bills in the final minutes of the Divisional Round. He could be highly motivated to bounce back following that.
