After the New England Patriots cut their roster by 90 players early last week, the team also had the opportunity to claim players off waivers with the third-highest priority.
New England claimed four players: offensive linemen Deontray Davis and Zachary Thomas, linebacker Curtis Jacobs and defensive lineman Eric Johnson.
However, if the Patriots weren’t so high on the waiver priority list, they might have lost two of them.
According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, The Arizona Cardinals attempted to claim Jacobs, and the Cincinnati Bengals claimed Johnson. Reiss also reported that the Denver Broncos, who waived Jacobs in roster cuts, would have re-signed him to the practice squad if he had not been claimed.
It’s unlikely that any of the four will have a significant impact for the Patriots in 2024 given that they were fringe players on the roster, but it’s worth noting that they weren’t the only team interested in the pair.
