The Denver Broncos have yet to agree to terms with a single player from another team since the legal tampering window for free agency opened on Monday. Meanwhile, teams all around them are making moves.
It was reported shortly before free agency began that the Broncos were interested in Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs. Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reinforced that idea on Monday. But, he won’t be coming to Denver.
On Tuesday, Doubs came to terms on an agreement with the New England Patriots. The deal, which will become official on Wednesday with the start of the new league year, is reportedly worth $80 million over the next four years.
That’s another offensive target the Broncos can scratch from their list. After all of the top free-agent running backs signed elsewhere, options are drying up at wide receiver as well. The Broncos are clearly taking a “run it back” approach to the 2026 season, but their lack of offense is going to be questioned loudly at least up to next month’s draft.
Broncos have missed out on offensive talent in free agency
The Patriots and Broncos went head-to-head in the AFC Championship Game and after falling short of winning the Lombardi Trophy, New England is attempting to keep its foot on the pedal. They were rumored to be interested in acquiring A.J. Brown via trade from the Philadelphia Eagles, but have settled on Doubs to replace Stefon Diggs, who was released earlier this month.
The $20 million per year average that Doubs is getting is likely a price the Broncos just weren’t willing to pay. There is also the matter of adding a player like Doubs pushing the younger players on the roster down the depth chart when Sean Payton is interested in seeing them develop further.

It seems that, at least so far, the Broncos have inquired about some of these high-profile free agents but just aren’t willing to shell out the kind of contracts that these other teams are giving them.
