Perfect Couple Cast Protests Controversial Mutiny Scene

The Perfect Couple is making headlines as Netflix’s new crime thriller — a genre that explains why most of its cast didn’t want to take part in the first episode’s bizarre dance sequence.

Based on the book of the same name by Elin Hilderbrand, The Perfect Couple arrived on Netflix this week, bringing subscribers another Nicole Kidman thriller about wealth and power.

The new drama begins with a murder mystery and a host of suspects (a la The White Lotus ), then delves into the family’s dark secrets. However, the series kicks off with a slight change in tone, as the opening scene is a large-scale dance sequence featuring the entire cast.

The show takes place on the beach and the cast, dressed in their finest evening wear, dresses and accessories, perform a choreography to Meghan Trainor’s song “Criminals.” Naturally, most of the actors involved weren’t on board initially.

Meghann Fahy, who plays influencer Merritt, revealed to Variety that they even went so far as to create a WhatsApp group chat in an attempt to end the sequence.

“Everyone in that group was saying they didn’t want to do this because we just didn’t understand,” she said. explain“I actually have a really hard time learning choreography, so I was really nervous about it.”

Ishaan Khattar, who plays Scooter, also added, “I don’t think any of us can wrap our heads around the idea of ​​doing this choreography with these characters. We’re like, ‘Wait, where does this fit into the scheme of things? This wasn’t part of the assignment!'”

Even Kidman, who plays matriarch and celebrated author Greer, admitted she needed some convincing. “Because I didn’t feel like Greer would dance! I felt like Greer would watch,” she said. “But I danced as Greer. I think it’s great and I’m so glad they made us all do it. Because there’s joy in that.”

However, there was one cast member who was more than willing to give his best in the dance sequence: Liev Schreiber.

“I was not in this [WhatsApp] “The network,” he said. “The whole cast was up in arms about the idea, except for me, I was already in my trailer practicing the dance moves. I just love dancing and I was a little disappointed when they found out I wasn’t participating more because I thought I was really good at it.”
