The Los Angeles Rams lost in a heartbreaker to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship. Sean McVay is not over the loss, and it’s understandable why.

The Rams had a very good chance to win, but came up short thanks to some brutal mistakes and very poor play from the secondary against a shaky Sam Darnold.

In the wake of Darnold’s 346-yard performance, NFL.com writer Kevin Patra is urging the Rams to upgrade their cornerback room this offseason.

Rams urged to fix exploited secondary after Sam Darnold’s NFC Championship performance

“Los Angeles dealt with questions at corner for much of the season,” Patra writes, “with Emmanuel Forbes and Darious Williams taking turns getting picked on. Add in Cobie Durant, Ahkello Witherspoon (IR), and Roger McCreary heading toward free agency, and corner is an obvious need in L.A.”

This season, the Rams’ defensive backfield was one of their biggest weaknesses. While Forbes had a small part of the year he played great during, he struggled for most of the season, and like Williams, he was exploited at times.

What makes the Rams cornerback situation so dire is that they’re not only dealing with some iffy play from their rostered players, but multiple key defenders are all hitting free agency.

The Rams need to address this position this offseason, with the draft being a prime chance to land a cornerback for the foreseeable future.

Offensively, the Rams are in a good spot. Another offensive lineman or wide receiver could be nice, but there is no bigger need than cornerback for the Rams this offseason.

The Rams are too good a team to head into 2026 with such a lackluster cornerback room. There will be solid free agent options and draft targets. The Rams need to add multiple corners this offseason; otherwise, heartbreak might be in store next year as well.
