The 2024 Formula 1 season has entered the home straight as we return for the final six races of the year, beginning with the United States Grand Prix from Austin, Texas.
Max Verstappen remains top of the drivers’ standings but Lando Norris has been eating into his championship lead, and with the McLaren man starting on pole today, that gap could be closed further.
The Dutchman claimed the chequered flag ahead of Norris at the Circuit of the Americas in 2023, and Red Bull will be hoping for a repeat performance as they bid to close the gap to McLaren in the constructors’ standings.

F1 United States Grand Prix starting grid, qualifying results
Lando Norris went quickest in qualifying, setting a time of 1:32:330, around three-hundredths of a second quicker than championship leader Max Verstappen.
The Ferraris of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc lock out the second row of the grid, with Oscar Piastri in P5 and George Russell sixth, although the Mercedes driver starts from the pit lane due to last-minute repair work.
Lewis Hamilton suffered what he described as a “nightmare” session as he was eliminated in Q1 and will start from 19th place on the grid.
