The live-action Snow White movie starring Rachel Zegler is getting closer to its release date, so let’s break down everything we know, including the release date and more.
Disney has been reimagining many of its most popular animated films and adapting them to the world of live-action lately. We’ve already had Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid. Snow White is the next princess to get the live-action treatment.
When the first full-length animated film was released in 1937, it was a huge success and is now one of the most beloved animated films of all time. So it’s only natural that the live-action remake would live up to the hype.
So, here’s everything we know about the new movie, including the release date, plot, cast and more.
Snow White live-action release date
Snow White live-action remake to be released on March 21, 2025.
Unlike many of Disney’s recent live-action remakes, Snow White will be released exclusively in theaters before being made available to stream at a later date.
Walt Disney Pictures first announced plans for a live-action remake of Snow White in October 2016. More than six years later, filming took place in the UK from March to July 2022.
The live-action cast
Like all Disney live-action adaptations before it, Snow White’s cast includes some big-name actors. The main cast of Snow White in live-action is as follows:
- Rachel Zegler as Snow White
- Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen
- Ansu Kabia as the hunter
- Andrew Burnap as Jonathan
- Martin Klebba as Grumpy
- Colin Michael Carmichael and Dujonna Gift as the Dwarves
- Colin Michael Carmichael as Farno
- Dujonna’s Maple Gift
Zegler discussed landing the role in Variety’s Actors on Actors seriesstating: “Never in my life would I have imagined that this would be a possibility for me.”
On the camera side, the film will be directed by Marc Webb, known for having directed the series The Amazing Spider-Man. The screenplay is written by Greta Gerwig, of the famous Barbie series, and Erin Cressida Wilson.
Marc Platt and Russell Allen will produce the film, alongside executive producer Callum McDougall. Benj Pasek and Justin Paul have written the new original songs for Snow White, as they did for Aladdin.
The plot
Snow White will be a remake of Disney’s classic animated tale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. As such, we can expect many plot points similar to the 1937 film and the original 1812 Brothers Grimm fairy tale, including a kind princess, a jealous and beauty-obsessed queen, and dwarves.
However, like many other Disney live-action remakes, this one will be slightly updated for modern times. For example, the live-action will feature an all-new love interest for the titular princess named Jonathan, an aspect that is likely to change the story considerably.
Is there a trailer?
After what seems like years of waiting and anticipation, Disney released a short teaser trailer for Snow White at the D23 event.
The trailer gave fans a glimpse of CGI dwarves, Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, and Zegler singing Snow White’s most iconic song.
