The Carabao Cup stepped up its intensity in the third round as the Premier League’s biggest names entered the competition.
The English elite clubs that qualify for European competitions only participate in the round of 16, such as Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, who arrive at the end of the season.
Manchester United got off to a fast start, qualifying for the fourth round with a 7-0 win over Barnsley, while neighbours City beat Championship side Watford 2-1 – a game that began just 49 hours after a thrilling Premier League draw with Arsenal.
Chelsea continued their encouraging form under Enzo Maresca with a 5-0 win over League Two leaders Barrow. Liverpool and Arsenal also beat West Ham and Bolton Wanderers 5-1.
There are also still plenty of Football League representatives, and those teams will be hoping to claim a big scalp in the last 16.

When will the Carabao Cup fourth round draw take place?
The draw for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup will take place on Wednesday September 25 after the end of Liverpool’s third round clash against West Ham at Anfield.
The match will kick off at 20:00 BST (15:00 ET) and will end approximately two hours later. If both teams are level after 90 minutes of play in the Carabao Cup before the semi-final stage, they will go straight to penalties.

When is the fourth round of the Carabao Cup?
The round of 16 will be played during the week beginning Monday, October 28.
This season’s Carabao Cup final will take place at Wembley on Sunday 16 March 2025.
