Ongoing injury concerns over first-choice central defensive pairing Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero is rumoured to be a key concern for the Australian coach and that could shape his thinking in January.
Postecoglou will be looking for a shrewd move in the mid-season market to provide support to Van de Ven and Romero, with a left-field option emerging per the Daily Telegraph.
Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov is rumoured to be on Postecoglou’s radar, after a breakthrough first half to the Ligue 1 campaign, with the 20-year-old also attracting attention from Paris Saint-Germain.
Khusanov’s current contract at Lens runs until the end of the 2026/27 season with reported transfer value of around £5m ($6.4m).
However, based on the interest in him, Lens could demand closer to £20m ($25.5m) as they are under no pressure to sell him.
If Spurs formalise their interest, there is a very real chance of breaking new ground in Premier League, with Khusanov potentially becoming the first Uzbekistan player to feature in the EPL.
Khusanov has represented his national team 16 times, since his senior debut in 2023, and he could become a trailblazer in English football.
Uzbekistan are currently one of the 94 FIFA-affiliated nations to have not been represented by a player in the Premier League.
