Mojang has made major changes in the leashing mechanic, and in the upcoming Minecraft Chase the Skies drop, we are about to get a brand new recipe for the simple yet resource-heavy lead. This comes as a much-needed change as our leads used to snap, thereby making the villagers and mob transport cumbersome. So if you’ve learned about the new mechanic and want to use it, then here’s how to leash Minecraft mobs together using lead.
How to Leash Minecraft Mobs Using a Lead
The most important thing you should know is that each Minecraft mob will require its own lead to be leashed. So if you want to tie up 10 mobs in a chain, then you will need 10 leads. Learn how to make a lead in Minecraft here.
Thankfully, chaining mobs together also means you won’t need to be tied to them. So once you get your lead, here are the two ways on how you can leash Minecraft mobs together:
1. Create a Caravan of Mobs
In the upcoming Minecraft Chase the Skies drop, you can make a caravan of mobs using leads. This allows more space and no unnecessary collisions. Ensure you have the proportionate number of leads as the mobs and then follow the steps below:
- Equip the lead and aim the lead at the mob you want to attach it to.
- Now, go near another mob you wish to include in your caravan.
- However, this time begin sneaking (or crouching) while you aim at the mob to attach the lead.
- This will remove the lead from your mob and attach it from the first mob to the second, thereby creating a chain.
So, keep repeating the process of crouching and attaching the lead to the mobs to make a caravan. This way you can attach all your favorite mobs together and take them wherever you want!
2. Group Up Mobs in a Cluster
The second way to leash mobs in Minecraft together is the traditional one. This is where you attach the lead to all the mobs at once and carry them in a cluster. However, doing this leads to collisions between the mobs, and they might get bounced off in different directions if the herd is large enough.
However, the leash physics have been improved for Chase the Skies drop, and the accidental snapping of the lead has been reduced so that you can try out this method for a change. However, do note you also need multiple leashes here. Follow the simple steps below to leash your mobs using lead this way:
- Equip a lead in your hand, go near the mob, and click the right mouse button to aim at it.
- Now, go near another mob you want in your group and press the RMB again.
- Now repeat the first two steps to group up mobs. This way, you can create a cluster of, say, only the cow variants in one group and only the chicken variants in another.

There are a whole lot of new ways you can leash up mobs and even boats as well. For instance, you can now attach a heavy mob like a horse, a camel, or a sniffer with a happy ghast in a four-leash configuration and transport it through the skies. Alternatively, you can attach a boat to those flying happy ghasts as well and bring a couple of villagers to your base for your villager trading hall.
