The hashtag #NetflixCancels is trending online, with followers denouncing the platform’s habit of canceling popular shows.
This isn’t the first time subscribers have rebelled against a streaming service. In June, Max suffered the same fate, with the hashtag #DontStreamOnMax taking over social media and leading to a brief boycott of the platform.
Netflix is now in the crosshairs. The platform is known for abruptly canceling shows (in 2020, it canceled 18 from their own original series), but users have had enough now.

What is #NetflixCancels?
#NetflixCancels is a hashtag used on X/Twitter to promote a boycott of the streaming service Netflix and to promote their cancelled TV shows.
No one can identify the origin of the hashtag, but account X @CancelNetflix seems to be leading the charge, with the hashtag having around 14.8k posts at the time of writing. The #NetflixCancels hashtag really started to take off on September 16, when it became a trending tag on the platform.
According to the account, the hashtag likely comes from several high-profile fandoms of previously canceled shows on the streamer, including Warrior Nun, Dead Boy Detectives (which was canceled on August 30), and Lockwood & Co.
The hashtag #NetflixCancels should not be confused with the hashtag #CancelNetflix, which previously trended worldwide in July 2024 after it was revealed that Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings had won $7 million. donation to Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.
This led many users to publicly cancel their subscriptions, but it has nothing to do with the current campaign against Netflix’s habit of canceling shows.
Since the hashtag #NetflixCancels went viral, disgruntled subscribers have taken to the social platform and shared their favorite shows that have been removed from the streaming service.
“We love good fan relations. Netflix needs to wake up and realize that what they are doing is hurting them in the long run. No one is going to watch new shows for fear of them being canceled because they have lost the trust of a lot of people,” one said. comment.

One of the main arguments used against Netflix by users of the hashtag is that the streamer has a history of canceling shows as soon as they hit a major cliffhanger.leaving viewers disappointed and without conclusion.
This includes shows like 1899, Mindhunter, and Shadow and Bone, all of which ended with huge teasers about what was to come. Without new seasons, these shows never reached their full potential.
The main account, @CancelNetflix, also created a post that shared the high Rotten Tomatoes scores of canceled Netflix shows, to counter the idea that “Netflix says it’s never canceled a hit show.”
Of course, success is not only measured by critical response, but it is also tangible proof that the shows in question are generally supported by fans and critics.
As of this writing, it does not appear that Netflix has responded to the hashtag.
