When the Pittsburgh Steelers took on the Washington Commanders on Sunday in Week 10, quarterback Russell Wilson had more to avoid than just the Commanders’ pass-rush.
As Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward noted on the latest episode of his podcast, the Steelers quarterback actually had a snake in his locker prior to taking the field against the Commanders on Sunday — that’s right, a snake!
Heyward revealed on his “Not Just Football” podcast that he returned from warm-ups to commotion in the locker room that stemmed from a snake being found in Wilson’s locker.
“Before the game, I go out, warm up, come back in,” Heyward said. “I come back in, right. Everybody was a little bit shocked when I came in. I was like, ‘What’s going on?’
“There was a snake in our locker room. A snake. And it was coming from the bottom of Russell [Wilson]’s locker. Everybody was thrown for a loop. A snake in our locker room.”
According to Mark Kaboly, the snake was about four to five feet long. Eventually, someone in the locker room was able to corral the snake and “disposed” of it. Thankfully, it doesn’t appear anyone was bit.
The home of the Commanders, Northwest Stadium, has a bad rap for being a less than ideal place to play. According to a poll conducted by The Athletic last year, the stadium, formerly known as FedEx Field before a recent name change, was voted among the league’s worst venues by players.
“Almost everything about (FedEx) is below the standard of what an NFL stadium should be,” one player said.
“The place is just a dump,” another player said.
The fact that there is wildlife running (or slithering) around the locker room isn’t going to help Northwest Stadium’s reputation. Perhaps the Commanders should consider hire a snake charmer to check the locker rooms before games.
