The Seattle Seahawks, coming off winning Super Bowl 60 over the New England Patriots in dominant fashion, had a tough task on their hands in the offseason.
A lot of key players were set to leave, and Kenneth Walker, Riq Woolen, Boye Mafe, and Coby Bryant all did leave in free agency. But, they brought back Rashid Shaheed, while also extending Jaxon Smith-Njigba and making some quality draft picks.
While the JSN extension or the Shaheed contract might seem like obvious candidates for the “best” move of the offseason, ESPN’s Bill Barnwell identified a different move as the best one made by John Schneider: the $24 million deal for cornerback Josh Jobe.
Why Seahawks’ best move was re-signing Josh Jobe
“Best: Re-signing Josh Jobe,” Barnwell writes. “… He’s not as athletic as Woolen, but Jobe will be under contract for $9.5 million in 2026 with the team’s option to pay him $6.5 million in 2027. Jobe can pay that off as a third cornerback, let alone as a starter.”
Seattle might’ve lost Woolen to the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency, but they got Jobe for free a few years ago, and he’s been great for the Seahawks defense since then.
After losing Woolen, bringing in a new cornerback to pair with Devon Witherspoon was a must. But, instead of taking a risk on a new face, the Seahawks simply re-signed Jobe to a $24 million deal over the next three years.
The 28-year-old cornerback is sticking around in Seattle and will be a fairly cheap starting-caliber cornerback who can play opposite of Witherspoon in this elite defense.
Last season, he had one interception, 12 passes defended, 0.5 sacks, 54 tackles, two quarterback hits, and a passer rating allowed of 77.0 in 15 starts.
Even though Shaheed was a Pro Bowler last season for his elite special teams production, the Jobe re-signing was the best move Seattle made this offseason, according to Barnwell.
