Jimmy Butler is a hot topic in the NBA right now. After there was speculation around him being traded, the talks became more interesting on Thursday. The 35-year-old forward addressed the situation and said he is open to playing elsewhere.
Butler is now one of the biggest players on the trade market, and there will be several teams interested in his services. There will be a variety of trade packages for Butler, and some of them could be surprising.
But for a team that wants to win, a bold move could be the answer. The Dallas Mavericks could go that route.
In a recent article from The Jugo Mobile, the Mavs were listed as a team that could make an offer for Butler. There were two potential packages mentioned, one of which involved one of Dallas’ best players. An offer of Kyrie Irving and Quentin Grimes was the first. Would the Mavs go for it?
Irving joined the Mavericks in 2023. Dallas acquired him in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets sent Irving and Markieff Morris to the Mavs for Dorian Finney-Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie and draft picks. Since then, Irving and Luka Doncic have been a strong duo. The two stars led the Mavs to the NBA Finals last season, and they are fighting to get there again.
Irving is averaging 24.3 points, 4.9 assists and 4.6 rebounds. For Miami, Butler is averaging 17.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists. Despite a dip in his stats, Miami’s six-time All-Star remains a productive two-way player.
Will a deal involving Irving and Butler happen? Chances are the Mavs will go a different route if they pursue a deal. Players like P.J. Washington and others are reasonable choices. Regardless of what they choose, acquiring Butler will take something drastic.
Butler will find a new home and Dallas could be in the mix.
