But you can’t necessarily use your Vision Pro on a moving plane the same way you would at home. Whether it’s the dim cabin lighting or the natural bumps and shakes of an airplane, Apple equipped the Vision Pro with a special mode designed to safely use the headphones during travel.
Travel mode for Apple Vision Pro is a setting that adapts the headphones specifically for use during flights. In most cases, when you turn on your Apple Vision Pro from your airplane seat, you will automatically be prompted to enable Travel Mode. Otherwise, you can enable and disable it from the visionOS control center.

What is Travel Mode for Apple Vision Pro?
Travel mode for the Apple Vision Pro makes the headphones more suitable when you’re on a plane. Think about it, when you’re sitting in the cockpit, you’re in a state of almost constant shaking. Although it may not seem or be noticeable throughout the entire flight, if you put on the 1.3-pound headphones, your eyes will have a hard time focusing on the screen.
That’s a big reason why Vision Pro will try to automatically detect when you’re on a plane through the device’s sensors. In most cases, before you’ve had a chance to open any app, you’ll be prompted to turn on Travel Mode. If you don’t receive this notification while on a plane, you can easily enable it through the command center.
In its Travel mode explained, Apple doesn’t specify how exactly the setup works, other than to “adapt to the unique motion and environment of commercial air travel.” But in our experience, we found that it keeps apps and windows more stationary so you can continue working or watching movies and shows.
Most features still work on the Apple Vision Pro. The key you can’t use is your Persona, which you probably aren’t FaceTiming over the air anyway. Additionally, if you use the Head Point Control accessibility feature, you’ll need to be sure to activate Travel Mode before the plane takes off.
Things to keep in mind when using Apple Vision Pro on an airplane
There are a couple of important things to keep in mind when flying with Apple Vision Pro. First, you should not use the headset during taxiing, takeoff, or landing. You should also remove your headphones during episodes of turbulence and if you want to take a nap. Likewise, it is not recommended to leave headphones on if you leave your seat for the entire flight.
Due to the limited light and space available in your seat, the headphones’ sensors are also unable to track your surroundings, so please be aware of your surroundings. Especially in low light conditions, when the headset can’t track your hands as well, you may want to keep the tray table clear and disable environments during inflight service or meals.
Learning to fly safely and comfortably with the Vision Pro might take a few trips to master, but as long as you use travel mode and follow etiquette, you should be able to master it.
