After multiple postponements, Joshua Buatsi and Dan Azeez are finally set to face each other on February 3. The fight at Wembley Arena for the British and Commonwealth light heavyweight titles is broadcast on Sky Sports in the UK and Peacock in the US.
Buatsi turned professional in 2017 and won the British light heavyweight title in 2019. He recently signed a deal with BOXXER after a few years under the Matchroom Boxing banner. The 30-year-old won his last fight in May against Pawel Stepien by unanimous decision.
Azeez turned professional in 2017. He won the English light heavyweight title against Lawrence Osueke in 2019 and the Commonwealth light heavyweight title in 2022 against Rocky Fielding. The “Super” went 2-0 in 2023, beating Khalid Graidia in his last fight in July.
The two were supposed to fight in October, but Azeez suffered an injury during training a week before the scheduled clash. There has been speculation about Azeez’s injury coming from Buatsi’s camp, something the former has opposed.
“Why would I compensate for an injury? Either you don’t believe it or you believe it,” Azeez told sky sports. “I thought you’d at least get to know my character a little better…Look at this guy, she’s acting like a diva. A diva and a crybaby, that’s the honest truth.”
