Lomachenko is a former two-pision champion and was once considered the lightweight king. The 36-year-old is 3-2 in his last five fights, losing a close contest last May against Devin Haney for the undisputed lightweight gold. It was his first attempt to fight for gold since he lost titles against Teófimo López in 2020.
The Ukrainian has fought inside and outside the ring, taking on boxing’s best while representing his country against Russian aggression. At the end of his career, Lomachenko knows he will soon hang up his gloves. First, he seeks to regain his champion status.
“But my career is almost over, of course. How many years is it going to be one, two, three, that’s all. But I still think I have a little power. It is a difficult question [when will I retire exactly]“Lomachenko told Fox Sports Australia via Boxing news 24/7. “At this point, every fight is hard. It’s hard to recover after fights. I don’t know what will happen to my body after this fight, and that’s why I can’t give you an answer to this question. [of when I will retire].”

Kambosos, 30, is a former unified lightweight champion and beat Lopez for the belts. After losing to Haney twice in Australia, “Ferocious” also sought to prove that he deserves to be champion again. A controversial victory against Maxi Hughes, which gave him this opportunity, did not help his cause.
Still, a decisive win against Lomachenko could also prove that he belongs in the conversation as one of the all-time greats.
