The USA’s quest for a record-extending 19th Billie Jean King Cup will continue when they take on Great Britain in a semifinal bout on Saturday, September 20.
A hard-fought 2-1 victory against Kazakhstan saw the USA move into their first semifinal in four years. Emma Navarro gave them a perfect start with her thrilling 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 win over Yulia Putintseva.
However, Elena Rybakina showed her class with a straight set 6-4, 6-1 rout of Jessica Pegula to pull one back for Ukraine. In the deciding doubles, Pegula and Taylor Townsend defeated Rybakina and Putintseva 6-2, 7-6.
On the other hand, Great Britain had a more straightforward route to the semifinals as they dominated Japan 2-0.
Sonay Kartal gave them the lead with a resounding 6-3, 7-6 win over Ena Shibahara before Katie Boulter sealed victory with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Moyuka Uchijima.
