Just when it looked like the Lakers were ready to steal home-field advantage from the Nuggets, the reigning champions showed their mettle in Game 2.
Denver authored a stunning 20-point comeback in the second half, punctuated by Jamal Murray’s game-winning jumper over Anthony Davis at the buzzer. The Nuggets have won ten consecutive games against the Lakers, six of those wins occurring in the playoffs.
Now, with their backs firmly against the walls, the Lakers will look to bounce back as the series moves to Los Angeles for Game 3 on Thursday night.
Anthony Davis (32 points) and LeBron James (26.5 points, 10 assists) have cut through Denver’s defense, but the Lakers will need more from their role players. In Game 2, D’Angelo Russell rose to the occasion, scoring 23 points and seven three-pointers.
But Los Angeles simply couldn’t eliminate Denver. Jamal Murray, with an excellent reputation for his playoff exploits, scored 14 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter. Michael Porter Jr. added 22 points, including a late 3-pointer that tied the game. And Nikola Jokic is averaging 29.5 points, 16 rebounds and 8.5 assists through the first two games.
