As long as the AFC is as wide-open as it looks, the Kansas City Chiefs are going to have some level hope.
The Chiefs (6-6) may be the team everyone else in the AFC has orbited for the last six seasons, but entering “Sunday Night Football,” they find themselves out of the playoff picture and trending in the wrong direction. Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans isn’t necessarily a must-win contest, but it’s fairly close to it if the Chiefs want to keep their fate in their own hands over the season’s final four weeks.
For the Texans (7-5), the path forward continues to get brighter. A win over the Indianapolis Colts only gave Houston more reason to believe it can go from an 0-3 start to an AFC South title. Even if a division title isn’t in the cards, a win at Arrowhead Stadium would move the Texans one major step closer to a wild-card spot and potentially bury the Chiefs.
The Texans’ monstrous defense has led them to seven wins in their last nine games, but Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense has proven time and time again that it can’t be counted out regardless of the circumstances.
