You’ve become a Lyft driver and you’re ready to hit the road and make money. You’re waiting for your first pickup, but you’re not receiving any ride requests from the Lyft Driver app. Is no one going anywhere or is something more serious going on?

It’s time to fix the situation so you can make money. This article looks at what could be happening if you’re not receiving ride requests and what changes you can make to improve your chances of getting rides on Lyft.

Why am I not receiving transportation?

There are several possible reasons why you aren’t getting rides on Lyft. You may not appear as “Active” in the Lyft Driver app. There could be a problem with the app itself or with your Wi-Fi or data connection. Additionally, your selected driving times may not be favorable, your location may not be in high demand, your alert preferences have changed, or your app may need to be updated.

First, check that it is active

If you haven’t set your account to “Connect,” the Lyft app won’t know that you’re ready to receive rides. You may have turned it off and forgotten to turn it back on. If you’re new to the Lyft Driver app, here are the steps to prove you’re active and ready to receive rides.

  1. At the top center of the Lyft Driver app home screen, look for the “Connect” button (steering wheel icon).

  2. Tap it to connect.

Once it has been activated, you should start receiving rides. When you need to stop at the end of the day or if you need to take a break, tap the button one more time and you will be unavailable.

Try location filters

Location filters are a perfect way to get more rides. They can be activated in all areas where Lyft is available and ensure that you are matched with passengers and destinations that meet the criteria you set. You will be automatically disconnected if you do not receive a ride request within 30 minutes of activating a location filter. The app can also disconnect you en route to your destination to ensure you arrive on time. Trip requests in a location filter look the same as in normal driver mode.

Using location filters helps you control your trip requests and filter them in these ways:

  • Arrive on time – Set a specific arrival time
  • Head to the destination – Set a specific destination for which you only want to receive trips for
  • Stay within an area – By placing a marker on your map, set your trips within a 5 to 10 mile radius

How to enter location filters

Here’s how to choose a location filter for your Lyft rides:

  1. Launch the Lyft Driver app.

  4. Select your travel filter preference from: “Arrive on time,” “Go to destination,” or “Stay nearby.”

How you get matched using location filters

When “Head to destination” is active and your arrival time is chosen, you can be matched with passengers moving in the direction you choose. This also includes trips that take you away from the destination. As the time to arrive gets closer, you will receive new trips that will bring you closer to your preferred destination. To ensure you arrive on time, you’ll receive an alert telling you when to head to your destination.

If you haven’t chosen an arrival time when Drive to Destination is turned on, you’ll only receive ride requests that get you closer to the destination. Keep in mind that it may not necessarily be closer in terms of distance, but it may be closer in terms of the time it takes to travel to your chosen destination.

How often can location filters be used?

Lyft drivers can use location filters twice a day, regardless of how they filter rides, such as arriving on time, heading to the destination, or staying nearby. They usually restart at midnight. Even if you go offline while using an active location filter, it will count toward your usage limit.

How to remove a location filter

To remove an active location filter, do the following:

  1. Next to your destination address, select “Edit.”

  2. Choose “Remove Filter.”

You will again receive typical ride requests, and when you arrive at your destination, you will be automatically logged out of Driver mode.

Use scheduled pickups

A great way to ensure you get rides is to purchase rides before connecting through scheduling. This eliminates having to wait for trip requests to arrive. Once activated, the Lyft Driver app will send the driver an alert when it is time to begin the scheduled ride, streamlining the process and eliminating guesswork.

Here are the steps on how to add scheduled trips:

  1. Go to the main menu.

You will be notified as soon as the time of travel arrives.

Driving in the city

To ensure you always get transportation, it helps to be located in a busy location. If you work in a big city like Chicago, Los Angeles, or New York, or even a slightly smaller city, moving from job to job will be faster. It will also be easier to find another passenger nearby after you have dropped one off. So if you’re near a large city or town, but haven’t tried scheduling trips there, try expanding your operating radius.

Schedule your travel times during prime time

Driving during “prime time” is a sure way to get more rides and increase profits. To maximize your hourly rate, schedule your workday around prime hours. Peak hours and fares differ from city to city, but they don’t differ much and coincide with commuters’ travel times.

The morning and evening rush hours are the busiest because everyone is trying to get to work, home or perhaps to a club to meet friends. Weekend nights are usually busy. Therefore, the best times to schedule trips on weekdays are from 6 to 9 am and 5 to 7 pm. For weekends, peak hours usually start in the evening, from 7 pm until bar closing time. at your location.

To check peak times in your city, access your Driver Dashboard or Driver Console. Maximize on special occasions like concerts, festivals, conventions and sporting events in your city. Primetime fares usually go live during these events and you’re always guaranteed to get rides.

Connectivity issues with the Lyft Driver app

Sometimes not receiving rides can be due to connectivity issues on your device. Here are some changes you could implement to improve your device’s connectivity.

  • Update device settings and software. This usually prevents future issues with connectivity within your Lyft Driver app.
  • Close any other apps running in the background. While using the Lyft Driver app, make sure you have closed all the apps you don’t need. Running multiple apps in the background on your device reduces the data bandwidth Lyft can use, impacting functionality.
  • Turn airplane mode on and off. Turning Airplane Mode on for a few seconds and then turning it off will refresh your network connection and resolve any connectivity issues.
  • Change location. If the network connection in your area is poor, try moving to a place with a stronger connection.
  • Restart your device. This simple fix will reset your device and eliminate any glitches within the Lyft Driver app.
  • Uninstall and reinstall the Lyft Driver app. Removing and reinstalling the Lyft Driver app may fix errors in the previous version. After uninstalling the app, power cycle your phone to ensure a clean slate.
  • Switch from Wi-Fi to data. If your Wi-Fi connection is unstable, try switching to data and see if that improves your connection.

Upgrade your journey by receiving potential

As a Lyft driver, it can be very frustrating not to get any transportation, especially if you rely on this income. Fortunately, there are simple solutions to this problem, which we have outlined above. Quick troubleshooting includes updating the app or a simple restart. Connectivity issues come into play and editing your trip settings increases your chances of receiving available trips.
