Miles McBride has given the Knicks a much-needed boost this season.
New York saw a big change at the trade deadline, including Immanuel Quickley, who finished second in Sixth Man of the Year voting last season, in the deal with OG Anunoby. After playing limited minutes in his first two seasons, McBride saw his minutes increase following the trade and ended up starting 14 of the 68 games in which he appeared.
McBride had one of his best games of the season in New York’s Game 1 victory over Philadelphia in the 2024 NBA Playoffs. Not only did he score 21 points off the bench, but the Knicks outscored the 76ers by 37 points. in its 28 minutes.
The 23-year-old will be an important part of the Knicks as they look to make a deep postseason run. If that happens, be prepared to hear him called Deuce instead of Miles.
Why is Miles McBride called Deuce?
As McBride explained while in West Virginia, his father named him “Deuce” because he was the second son. The Knicks guard has an older brother named Walter III, who was nicknamed “Trey.”
“It was Trey and Deuce,” McBride said. “He thought he was smart about that.”
McBride said almost everyone outside of the sport calls him Deuce. His father is the only member of his family who doesn’t call him Miles.
McBride comes from an athletic family. His father, Walt, played basketball at Xavier from 1982 to 1986, averaging 9.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. during a four-year career. His mother, Kim, played tennis at Ohio State.
McBride’s brother, Trey, played college basketball at Northwood, where averaged 13.0 points in three years. He continued his basketball career abroad with stops in the Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia, Australia and Germany.
McBride spent two years in West Virginia. The Thunder then selected him with the 36th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and traded him to the Knicks in a deal for Jeremiah Robinson-Earl.
The 2023-24 season marks McBride’s third season with the Knicks.
