As soon as Conor Benn scored a 12-round unanimous decision over Peter Dobson on Saturday, rumors began about possible opponents for the Englishman’s next fight. The most attractive of all was pound-for-pound star Gervonta “Tank” Davis.
As is often the case, the war of words began on social media, with the American wrestler criticizing Benn’s performance against Dobson. While there were no knockdowns in that fight, the British contender clearly won on points.
However, Davis was not impressed. “Isn’t it funny, the way you looked last night,” Davis said via Twitter (X). “Give me 3 weeks and a weekend in Turks and your ass is grass. Can you hear me!’.”
Benn, who never takes infractions lightly, didn’t take long to respond with a verbal counterpunch: “Oh, here’s the munchkin-beating woman from Oz! Let’s do it now then?
Davis, 29, accepted the invitation and asked for a few additional details: “Sure, why don’t you… where would you like to yell at bruv?”
Almost immediately, Benn, 27, ordered his promoter to approach his rival: “Eddie Hearn, drop the munchkin. [Davis] DM and make this fight NEXT. I’m sure he’ll screenshot the conversation anyway to see who’s full of shit. See you soon.”
“I’ll be waiting for Eddie Hearn,” was Davis’ short and sweet response.

Where would Conor Benn vs. Tank Davis?
Last week, The Ring’s Joe Santoliquito posted a story citing that “numerous sources” confirmed that Davis’ next fight would take place in the United Kingdom.
Now, it must be said that this was before the Baltimore star had the verbal dispute with Benn. However, if true, the fact that Davis is willing to travel cannot hurt the chances of the fight taking place.
Davis made his first defense of the world title (IBF super featherweight) on British soil when he knocked out England’s Liam Walsh in 2017.
What weight would Tank Davis vs. Conor Benn?
This is the complicated part. Davis is a lightweight, and although he won a regular WBA title at super lightweight, he only fought there once.
Benn is a career welterweight who was set to face Chris Eubank Jr. at middleweight. He is two and a half inches taller than Davis at 5-8 inches, although his reach is only a half-inch longer at 68 inches.
But dimensions aside, Benn is a much bigger man than Davis and would have a significant physical advantage in the ring if this fight is contested at welterweight.
It is unlikely that Benn can go any lower.
Who promotes Gervonta Davis?
“Tank” fights under the PBC umbrella and fought on Showtime in the United States for many years.
However, with Showtime’s departure from boxing late last year, the PBC reached a new agreement with Amazon Prime.
As a result of this recent acquisition, many believe there is no chance of a fight between Davis and Benn happening next. PBC has a preference for infighting and the chances of Al Haymon and Eddie Hearn teaming up to make this a reality are slim.
Time will tell.
