How to block a follower on Instagram

Blocking an Instagram user is useful when you don’t want someone to visit your profile or see your stories. A blocked Instagram user will not be able to find her profile even when using the app’s search tool. Block a follower on Instagram

Instagram offers several ways to block followers. If you have never been in contact with the users you want to block, you can do so from their profile. On the other hand, if you have been in contact with them at some point, you can also block them from the chat thread. Follow these steps to block users from your profiles:

1. On your Instagram page, find the profile of the account you want to block. You can type their name in the search function or search for them among your followers.
   
2. Once you find the Instagram profile of the person you want to block, tap the three dots in the top right corner.
   
3. In the menu, tap “Block.”
   
4. You will see a pop-up menu with several options.
   
5. Select “Block” to prohibit access to the selected account. You can also block users and other accounts they may have or create.
   

In the same menu, you will also find the “Block and report” option. You can report users anonymously for various reasons.

• If you think the Instagram user is impersonating someone else.
• If the user you are trying to block is under 13 years old.
• For other reasons, including using your account for spam, if you find the content offensive, or if you sell illegal products.

Please note that choosing to block other accounts that users may have will only work with accounts that you are not currently following. If you already follow some accounts of the same user, you will have to repeat the process with each account you want to block.

Another alternative to block a user is from the chat thread with that account. Follow these steps to block an Instagram user from the chat window:

1. In the chat window, tap “View Profile.”
   
2. On the new page, you will find several options, including “Profile” and “Search.” then tap the “three dots” in the upper right corner.
   
3. In the pop-up window, tap “Block” or “Block and other accounts they may have or create.”
   

Please note that the chat thread will still appear in your chat feature, but you will no longer be able to contact that user. If blocked users try to contact you through the chat thread, you won’t receive their messages.

What happens when you block someone?

When you block someone on Instagram, the blocked user will not receive any type of notification informing them that they have been blocked. Additionally, they won’t be able to find your profile anywhere in the app, whether by searching for your username in the search function or among the followers of friends you may have in common. This is what will happen to your previous interaction with a blocked account.

Comments and Likes

When you block a user on Instagram, all of that person’s likes and comments will be removed from your profile. However, these users can still see their likes and comments on public accounts and accounts they follow. If you decide to unblock a user, their likes and comments will not be restored.

Mentions

Blocked users will not be able to mention you in their comments or tag you in images. Even if you decide to change your username after blocking users, they won’t be able to tag or mention you unless they are unblocked.

Messages

Messages in your Instagram app will also be affected when you block a user. This is what will happen with your messages.

• The chat thread you shared with a blocked user will still be in your chat window. However, you will not be able to send them messages.
• If you are in a group and decide to block a member, you will receive a message to confirm whether you want to stay or leave the group chat. If you choose to stay, you will be able to see messages from blocked users.
• If the person you want to block has multiple accounts, you will have to block each of them manually.
• Blocking a user on Instagram does not mean they will be blocked on Facebook. Unless you manually block users on Facebook, they will still be able to communicate with you through the app’s chat.

How to unblock someone on Instagram

If you blocked a person by mistake, or if you want to give an account permission to revisit your profile, you can unblock them by following these steps:

1. Tap your photo in the bottom right corner to access your profile.
   
2. Go to the three lines in the upper right corner.
   
3. In the menu, tap “Settings & Privacy.”
   
4. Scroll down the menu until you reach “Blocked” under “Who can see your account.”
   
5. You will see a list of all your blocked users. Tap the “Unblock” button next to the user you want to unblock.
   

How to stop someone from commenting on your posts

If you don’t want to block Instagram users but want to limit their access to your account, you can restrict their comments and interaction with your profile. Only you and the user can see new comments and reply history when you restrict an Instagram user. Additionally, the chat between you and the restricted user will no longer appear in your account.
