The Telegram messaging app is a great way to stay in touch with friends when it works properly. But there are many reasons why Telegram may not connect. Sometimes your internet connection may not be strong enough for Telegram to work or the app may be the problem.

But whatever the reason, there are several things you can try to get back to your valuable chats. This article explains what can cause Telegram to stop working. Additionally, you will see some quick solutions to connect Telegram, which you can apply to different devices.
Telegram does not connect on iPhone
It can be quite frustrating when you want to use Telegram, but the “Connecting…” status keeps appearing at the top of the screen. Since Telegram is a cloud-based application, you need a stable internet connection to send and receive messages. A weak link is usually the most common reason you have problems.
Before doing anything else, make sure your Wi-Fi is working. You can do this by opening any other application on your iPhone, such as Instagram, WhatsApp or YouTube. Also, try sending a message or opening a video. You can even check the bandwidth speed using speedtest.net either rapid.com. If none of those options seem to work, your Wi-Fi has a problem. In this case, the best thing to do is to unplug and restart your router and modem. Once you unplug them, wait at least 30 seconds before plugging them back in.
If you’re using cellular data, make sure it’s turned on by going to the “Cellular” tab in your iPhone’s “Settings.” Also, make sure you have enough mobile data to browse and use apps. Another quick solution you can try is to restart your iPhone.
If you have checked all of the above and Telegram still does not work, the next step is to check if you have given the application the necessary permissions to function correctly. This is how you do it:
- Open “Settings” on your iPhone.

- Go down until you find “Telegram” in the application list.

- Toggle the “Background app refresh” change.

- Enable the “Cellular data” option.

Another solution you can try is to delete Telegram and install it again. Follow the steps below to find out how it’s done:
- Find “Telegram” on the home screen and press and hold it.

- Select “Delete applications” in the pop-up menu.

- Choose “Delete application.”

- Tap on “Delete” again.

- Go to the “Application store.”

- touch your “profile picture” in the upper right corner of the screen.

- Select the “Bought” eyelash.

- To locate “Telegram” in the application list.

- Play the “cloud” icon on the right side.

Now that you have reinstalled Telegram, you can log in to your account again. The connection issue should be fixed.
The app may also not connect because you are using an older version. Here’s how you can check if you need to update Telegram on your iPhone:
- Open the “App Store” on your iPhone.

- go to your “profile picture” in the upper right corner.

- To locate “Telegram” in the application list.

- If you can see the “Update” button next to it, tap it and wait a few seconds.

Telegram does not connect on an Android device
Many of the exact solutions used on iOS/iPhone apply to Telegram on Android devices. If you’ve checked your Wi-Fi/mobile data connection and everything seems to be working correctly, the problem could be with the app itself. There is a possibility that the Telegram servers are down, in which case you won’t be able to do anything about it. However, these types of problems are usually resolved relatively quickly.
Before doing anything else, make sure to restart your Android device. This will clear all the apps running in the background that are causing your Telegram app to lag.
Also, the Telegram connection issue can be resolved by deleting the app data and cache. This is how it is done on an Android:
- Gonna “Settings” on your Android.

- Proceed to “Applications” in the menu and go to “Manage applications.”

- To locate “Telegram” in the application list.

- Select “Clear data” at the bottom of the screen.

- Tap “Delete all data” and “Clear cache” in the pop-up menu.

- Confirm that you want to do this by selecting “OK.”

Once the data and cache are cleared, you will need to log in to your Telegram account again. While you’re in the “Telegram” p of your Android’s “Settings,” make sure the app has all the necessary permissions. Although you had already given Telegram permissions when you first installed the app, some of them may have been revoked due to a bug. This is what you should do:

Telegram does not connect to a PC
If you are using Telegram in your browser, also called “Web Telegram”, you may also experience problems with the connection. Just like the mobile app, you should check if the Wi-Fi works. If it’s not Wi-Fi causing connectivity issues, it could be your browser.
To get Telegram working again and speed up any other internet activity, it’s a good idea to clear your browser’s cache. Here’s how to do it in Chrome:
- Open “Google Chrome.”

- Click on the “three points” in the upper right corner.

- Select “More tools” and then click “Delete navigation data.” This will take you to a new window.

- Choose the “time interval.” You can clear the cache of the previous time or select “All the time” and delete everything.

- Make sure “Browsing history,” “Cookies and other site data” and “Cached images and files” They are all controlled.

- Click on the “Delete data” button.

Another solution you can try is to download the Telegram desktop application. The Telegram desktop app is known to cause fewer connectivity issues than the web app.
Finally, if none of these solutions help you, the last thing you should try is to restart your PC.
Telegram won’t connect without a VPN
Another reason why your Telegram might not connect is your VPN. Depending on the server it is linked to, Telegram could be banned in those regions. There are two things you can try at this point. First, you can change your VPN location. Secondly, you can disable your VPN completely. This applies to both mobile and desktop applications.
Similarly, if you are using a proxy server, you may not be able to connect because of it. To turn it off, here’s what you need to do:
- Open the “Telegram” app on your phone.

- Play the “three horizontal lines” in the upper left corner of your screen.

- Proceed to “Data and storage” on the menu.

- Select the “Attorney” eyelash.

- Find the “Use a proxy server” option and disable it.

Telegram not connecting is a frustrating but common problem, usually due to an unstable internet connection.
