Dalton Smith looks to prove why he should fight for world gold when he takes on veteran Jose Zepeda on March 23. It’s a home fight for Smith and the fight will take place at the Utilita Arena Sheffield.
A multiple medalist at amateur level, Smith has won gold at English, British and Commonwealth super lightweight. His last fight was an impressive TKO victory against Sam Maxwell, establishing himself as a threat in the pision.
The Sheffield-born star faces a step up in competition in Zepeda, and the hope is that he puts in a performance that Eddie Hearn, Matchroom and the sanctioning organizations can’t ignore.
“The next fight is huge and will put him within striking distance of his dream of bringing a world title to his hometown,” said Grant Smith, Dalton’s father and coach. The star. “He is proud of his Sheffield roots and appreciates all their (fan) support. We want to fill every available seat to show the world that Sheffield supports its own and can achieve its own thing.”

Zepeda came up short in the fight for lightweight and super lightweight gold in three tries and is 2-2 in his last four fights. He lost to Richardson Hitchins in September, losing a decision for the IBF North American super lightweight title. It may be one of the last attempts to show that the 34-year-old can be a contender.
The co-main event will see Derby’s Sandy Ryan defend the WBO welterweight title against Yorkshire’s Terri Harper.
