Thanks to Audible and similar platforms, it is no longer necessary to dedicate special time to reading a book. With audiobooks at your disposal, you can listen to any book, anytime, anywhere. This is especially useful while traveling or when you are stuck in traffic.

That’s where Amazon’s Audible comes in, giving you access to its library of more than 200,000 titles. With a paid membership, you can choose one book each month, regardless of its price. However, you may find that you are not using all the benefits that paid membership gives you. If that’s the case, you might consider canceling it.

How to cancel Audible from an iPhone or Android device

If you want to cancel Audible membership directly from your smartphone, unfortunately, that is impossible. Simply deleting the Audible app from your phone won’t change anything about your subscription. Additionally, both the Android and iOS apps do not provide access to the cancel feature.

To cancel your Audible subscription, you will need to visit their website from a desktop or laptop computer. Of course, if you want to do it from your phone, you can choose the desktop version of the Audible website in your browser. In that case you will be able to complete the cancellation process, although not as comfortably as from a computer.

How to cancel Audible from Windows 10 or Mac PC

Even if it’s possible to cancel your Audible subscription from your smartphone, the process is much more convenient when done from a desktop or laptop.

1. Go to the Audible website and click Log in in the upper right corner of the page.

2. Sign in to your Audible account with your username and password.

3. Now, click on your name on the right side of the top menu and then click on Account details.

4. Then click Membership details menu option on the left.

5. Then, in the Your membership section you will see the Cancel membership button, click it.

6. Now, click on the Continue canceling button.

7. Select the reason you want to cancel and then click Continue.

8. Audible may use the following screen to try to keep you as a paid member. You might see a good deal, like a 50% discount on the monthly subscription for the next three months, or something similar. If that sounds good to you, then you can click Change membership. If you’re still sure you want to cancel, click Cancel membership.

9. Once this is done, the Your account The page will load automatically. Notice the notification at the top of the screen. If everything went well, it should say We’re sorry to see you go. Your membership has been cancelled.

Once this is done, you will finally be free of Audible’s monthly fee.

How to Cancel Audible Over the Phone with Amazon Support

The best way to cancel your Audible membership over the phone is to call customer service. Before calling them, make sure you have your Audible login credentials handy.

Then, dial 1 (888) 283-5051 to telephone a customer service representative. Tell them you want to cancel your Audible membership and they will guide you through the rest of the process. Once completed, you should receive a confirmation email from Audible. Since this serves as proof that you successfully canceled your membership, be sure not to delete that email.

If you live outside the US, you can call 1 (206) 577-1377. Please note that some charges will apply for making an international call. If you want to speak with Audible Customer Support in Spanish, you can call toll-free 1 (888) 283-0332 if you live in the United States or Canada. To make an international call, dial 1 (206) 922-0156 but, as we said, some charges will apply.

In addition to this, there is also the option to have the Audible customer support team call you back. To do so, follow the steps below.

1. Go to the “Talk to Customer Service” page using a browser on your computer. The link is https://www.audible.com/contactus/clicktocall.
2. When the page opens, first select your country from the dropdown menu. Please note that the callback option only works if you live in the United States, Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico, or the US Virgin Islands. If you live outside of any of these countries, please use the phone number mentioned above to call customer service directly.
3. In the next set of fields, enter your phone number.
4. Then click Call me now either Call me in 5 minutes and wait for them to call you.

Can I listen for the rest of my subscription period after canceling?

After you cancel your Audible membership, you will still be able to access any audiobooks you previously purchased. And there is no limit. They are yours indefinitely.

If you have an Audible Escape membership, then the situation is a little different. In this case, once you cancel your membership, you will be able to listen to your Escape titles until the current billing period expires. Once you do this, the system will remove all titles you have earned through Audible Escape from your profile.

Can I just pause my membership for a period of time?

If you can. Putting your membership on hold is easy at Audible. This will allow you to keep your credits and use them to make purchases even while your membership is suspended. You may suspend your account once every twelve months. The maximum time to have your account on hold is three months.

Please note that there are three cases in which you cannot pause your membership:

1. You have an annual membership.
2. Your membership plan does not have the ability to earn credits.
3. Applied for Audible membership before 2006.

To pause your Audible membership, everyone should contact Audible customer service directly through their contact page.

3. From the Please make a selection drop down menu, choose Change, pause or cancel membership.
   
4. Next, choose the contact option. You can click on any Chat, Phoneeither Email. It’s important to note that Audible recommends using the Phone option so we can process your request faster.
   

Once you have successfully suspended your Audible account, you will not have to pay the monthly fee for that period. Of course, you will still be able to use any credits you have left. However, there is a downside to pausing your membership and it has to do with free Audible Originals. During this period, you will not be able to add any of that free content to your library.

Do I lose my credits if I cancel Audible?

Unfortunately, yes, you do. Since the credits are linked directly to your membership ID, once you cancel, the credits will expire immediately. So before you cancel your Audible account, it would be good to use up any remaining credits you may have. If you’ve accumulated a lot of Audible credits, you might consider putting your account on hold until you use them up. Of course, this will not affect the expiration date of your credits.

One thing to remember is that any books you have purchased through Audible will remain in your possession. You do not need to be an Audible member to access them.
