Why do people delete contacts on Snapchat? It could be because someone is bothering them with tacky photos. But sometimes it happens accidentally. You probably know that there are two ways to remove someone from your contact list: you can delete them or block them. Each one has its own advantages.
Once you’ve unfriended someone, you can review your decision at any time and send them a friend request again. However, it is important to think about the consequences.
Delete a contact
To start, let’s explain how to remove someone from your Snapchat contact list.
- Show your friends list

- Press and hold a name

- Tap “Manage Friendship”

- Tap “Delete Friend”

Block a contact
A very similar process occurs when you block someone.
- Go to your friends list

- Press and hold a name

- Tap “More”

- Select “Block”

The differences between deleting and blocking your contacts
If you delete a contact from your list, you won’t be able to get more snapshots from them. Your Snap Score becomes private, but all previous Snap Trades are available to revisit, assuming you’ve saved them.
When you remove someone from your contact list, they will not be notified of your actions.

Blocking a contact involves more drastic changes. For example, even saved messages will disappear. Also worth mentioning is the fact that when you block and then unblock someone who used to be on your friends list, they won’t automatically be added back as a friend.
How to find deleted friends
Now you can add your friends again by following the same steps you would follow to add anyone else on Snapchat. But sometimes it can be difficult to find your Snapchat username. If you deleted someone on Snapchat and don’t know their name, do this:
- Open Snapchat settings

- Tap My details

- Log in to your account and tap “Submit Request.”

- Open the email from Snapchat.

- Extract the file.

- Locate the “Friends” file.
(HTML>Friends>Deleted friends)
- Search for your deleted friends.

Scroll through your friends list and find the one you want to add back on Snapchat. Then, follow the steps in the next section to add them again.
How to add people back to your friends list
Obviously, to add someone you’ve deleted, you have to remember their account. This shouldn’t be difficult if you deleted an old friend.
- Open the Snapchat app on your mobile device and make sure you are signed in

- Tap on the Add friends icon

- Use one of the four options below to add the deleted user

Note* You can add people by username, contacts, Snapcode and it’s easier to add people nearby. You can even add them from your address book. - Select “Add”

That’s all about it. Now you can wait patiently for your request to be accepted.
If you don’t remember a person’s username, but you have friends in common, you can ask for their username or even their phone number.
You can then add the phone number to your address book and use the “Add from address book” feature to locate it on Snapchat and add it as a friend again.

Additional tip
To add someone from your phone’s contact list, you must give Snapchat access to that list. The device’s contact list is not exactly the same as your address book. If you give Snapchat the access it needs, when you tap the “Contacts” tab instead of the “Add Friends” tab, the app will show which contacts have their phone numbers linked to a Snapchat account.

You will see the “+Add” button to the right of their names. Tap it to connect with them in the app.

What happens when you add an old contact again?
Once you add someone you previously unfriended, Snapchat lets you see all the snaps they sent you when you weren’t friends, assuming they accept your invitation the second time.
Here’s an interesting fact that not many users realize. Every Snapchat user profile has a list titled “Snapchatters who added you again.” Let’s say you eliminated someone and they didn’t realize it. All they have to do is go through that list and look for your name.
This is important because deleting and blocking contacts does not send notifications. But a person can still verify why you stopped responding. When you delete someone, your name will disappear from that list on their profile.
It’s worth thinking twice before eliminating someone. If you have doubts, know that you can’t just change your mind later without them knowing. Whether you unfriend someone or block them, things can get awkward.
Manage your friends list carefully
Never forget that you can’t add someone to your friends list without them knowing. After weeks or months of silence, your willingness to reconcile may not be appreciated.
It’s also important to remember that blocking someone will definitely delete previous snaps and conversations between the two of you. If you are not just getting rid of a random interlocutor, it is better to use the “Delete” function, as it will at least allow you to look back at important moments.
