Nearly a decade after her last film appearance, Cameron Diaz is coming out of retirement for her Netflix film with Jamie Foxx. Back in action. And we finally got our first look at the appropriately titled action movie, courtesy of Netflix’s 2024 reel that dropped Thursday morning.
In the short clip, which you can find at about the two-minute mark in the trailer in the player at the top of this page, Diaz and Foxx channel the energy of spy children starring Carla Gugino and Antonio Banderas: Parents, who are also spies!
“What if mom and dad are criminals?” asks young actor McKenna Roberts.
“We were spies”Diaz corrects. We then get to see Foxx and Diaz beat up some bad guys. 24 years have passed since Charlie’s Angels movie, but Diaz still has that mean right hook. And he still had that impeccable comic timing, insisting, “It’s okay, it’s not that bad!” after her daughter berates her for knocking out a bully.
The film was directed by Seth Gordon (Identity Thief, Baywatch) and Gordon co-wrote the screenplay with Brendan O’Brien. The production faced problems in April 2023, when Foxx was forced to leave filming due to a medical emergency. A body double was used for the remaining scenes. Foxx has now recovered and is making public appearances again. The supporting cast includes Kyle Chandler, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, Jamie Demetriou and Rylan Jackson.
Back in action is Díaz’s first film since the 2014 musical film. Annie. The actor, who is now 51 years old. unofficially announced He retired from acting in 2017 and took a well-deserved break from Hollywood life. But now it looks like Diaz is ready to return to action.
