Maybe it’s because I’m a fan of romance or maybe it’s because I hadn’t started with Liu Cixin yet. The end of death before watching the Netflix adaptation, but the 3 Body problem The story from season 1 that hooked me the most was what was happening with Will Downing (Alex Sharp) and Jin Cheng (Jess Hong). From the beginning, it’s obvious that Will has all the makings of the classic “sad, nerdy guy who carries a (sometimes creepy) torch for his beautiful, matchy college best friend.” However, as 3 Body problem When it’s revealed, it’s clear that not only is Will the best of the Oxford Five, but Jin could reciprocate his feelings. Which means that the end of 3 Body problem Episode 7 “Only Advance” gave me old-fashioned soap opera chills. You know, the ones where you’re dying for the characters to overcome time so they can be together forever.
However, I also had to know: Would Will have kept going with what he’s doing if… you know… Jin had shown up just in time and declared his love for him? We asked 3 Body problem star Alex Sharp to find out…

3 Body problem is David Benioff, DB Weiss and Alexander Woo’s ambitious adaptation of Liu Cixin’s three books in The memory of the Earth’s past trilogy. The first season of 3 Body problem mainly adapts the first novel, The three body problemfor the small screen, while weaving the first plot points of The dark forest and The end of death in the last part of the season. The relationship between The end of deathIronically, Yun Tianming and Cheng Xin are only deepened through their reimagined Netflix counterparts, Will Downing and Jin Cheng.
In 3 Body problem, we meet the Oxford Five, a quintet of brilliant college classmates who come together under sad circumstances: the untimely death of their mentor, Vera Ye (Vedette Lim). As it happens, her death is just the beginning of an era of chaos. Soon, one of them is brutally murdered while Jin finds himself on the front lines of an interstellar war with a mysterious alien race called the San-Ti.
While all this is happening, Will finds out that he is dying of cancer. He secludes himself in a charming coastal cabin visited by his surviving friends. After inheriting a large fortune from his murdered, much more successful friend, Will decides to buy a star to give to Jin, whom he has secretly loved since college. He even briefly musters the courage to declare his love for her, before seeing her with her attractive boyfriend Raj (Saamer Usmani). But he does not.
Jin has been busy coming up with an idea to speed up humanity’s ability to visit the stars and intercept the San-Ti before they reach Earth in a few centuries. She comes up with Project Ladder, which would power a small ship that would keep a human in cryogenic sleep and hurtle across the universe at faster than light speed with the help of a nuclear blast pathway. When it becomes obvious that the math will only work with most light loads, Jin’s boss, Wade (Liam Cunningham), coldly suggests that they just send a brain. After all, the San-Ti should have the ability to interact with a brain or reconstruct an entire body. He goes on to point out that Will would be the perfect candidate.
When Jin tearfully tells Will about the plan and begs him not to do it, he naturally volunteers. Only on the eve of his euthanasia does Wade reveal that Will obviously bought the star from Jin. She realizes that he loves her and she loves him. She rushes to the hospital, but it’s too late. He is already dead. His brain has been harvested and he is being prepared for the dangerous journey to the stars.
Sure, Will’s fatal cancer diagnosis only gave him a short time to live, but would he still have agreed to volunteer his brain for the Ladder Project if Jin had simply said “I LOVE YOU”?
“Well, I think I might have delayed it. You know, maybe you’ll have a nice romantic weekend. 3 Body problem star Alex Sharp told Jugo Mobile, raising our hopes for a fairytale ending before crushing it. “But I think ultimately he’s going to die anyway.”
Sharp explained that Will’s sacrifice is “such a beautiful thing” to offer Jin. (Dude, you already gave it one star! Stop bragging!)
“You know, he loves her very much. He wants to give her what he needs for her pursuit of greatness. “She is very ambitious and he wants to help her with that,” Sharp said.
“So, I think I think so. Maybe the deadline would have changed, but I think so. Yeah.”
Grab the tissues, 3 Body problem fans, because there was no way this story was going to end happily ever after for Jin and Will. At least, not for Will, not on this season of 3 Body problem.
