My face is as blue as those stupid Avatar aliens I’ve written about so many times. LG G3 OLED TV in this point. But there is a good reason for it. It’s a transformatively good TV thanks to its brightness-boosting Micro Lens Array panel, and honestly the best piece of tech I’ve ever bought.
While it is a fantastic television to play best ps5 games Since then, the most viewing pleasure I’ve gotten from my G3 has come from watching 4K Blu-ray movies. Below I’ll walk you through what I consider the best-looking Ultra HD drives I’ve seen on my LG OLED. Although a couple of them are far from great films, all of the films below look glorious in 4K.
Blade Runner 2049
How this movie failed at the box office, I will never know. Even by Denis Villeneuve’s very high standards, Blade Runner 2049 is an incredible film. It also looks amazing, thanks in large part to Roger Deakins’ remarkable cinematography. Scenes set in a futuristic, ruined Las Vegas look particularly vivid on what is easily one of the most incredible 4K Blu-rays I have ever laid my eyes on.
Godzilla vs. Kong
Look, I’m not going to try to convince you that Godzilla vs. Kong is a great movie, but it’s a lot of fun. It’s also a fantastic-looking 4K Blu-ray that gets more out of my Philips Hue Gradient Light Strip than any other movie I can think of: the third act, the neon-drenched fight between The Big G and the giant gorilla in Hong Kong offers quite a light show. This is simply a magnificent film that shines in 4K while also putting to shame the CG of Marvel’s output in recent years.
Drive
Forget Barbie, this It’s the best movie Ryan Gosling has ever starred in. And it’s not even close. Nicolas Winding Refn’s stylish action drama essentially turns Canada’s hottest product into The Man With No Name Behind the Wheel. Few films have better captured how magical Los Angeles can look at night than Drive, and this 4K transfer is nearly immaculate. I love this movie so much that I went out of my way to visit the real-life grocery store in Echo Park that appears briefly in the movie the first time I visited Tinseltown. Yes, clearly I’m a little unhinged.
The jungle book
While the standard Blu-ray looks fantastic, the Ultra HD version takes things to another eye-catching level. This is probably the most beautiful 4K Blu-ray movie I’ve ever seen, which is not a statement I make lightly. Although it’s almost a decade old, the visual effects in this live-action remake are still remarkable. Idris Elba’s Shere Khan is a photorealistic work of art, and the brindle cherry on top of a deliciously appealing sundae. Plus, watching Christopher Walken play a gigantic orangutan is something your eyes need to witness as soon as possible.
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
In my opinion, The Fellowship of the Ring is the best movie ever made. My favorite part of the year comes at exactly 10:35 pm every Christmas Day, when I sit down to watch all 228 minutes of the extended version; I should have said “a little deranged night owl” before. The 2001 masterpiece and its two sequels look incredible, with director Peter Jackson personally overseeing the 4K restoration work on each film, including subtle adjustments of crucial CGI shots. As I mentioned above, the one trilogy to rule them all is on sale right now, and while it’s still expensive, I can’t think of many better ways to occupy roughly 900 minutes of your precious time.
Avengers Endgame
It’s no surprise that one of the highest-grossing movies of all time looks pretty good on 4K Blu-ray. The most fan-pleasing MCU movie is also the most compelling, and considering what’s happened since then, 2019 feels like a lifetime ago. The final chapter of Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the last CGI movie in the franchise that doesn’t suck. The extraordinary final battle between all Heroes vs Thanos looks amazing in 4K on my LG G3 OLED.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
I have described this before as “The hottest 4K Blu-ray is definitely not the movie you’re expecting”, and I stand by that statement. Fallen Kingdom is nowhere near as good as Spielberg’s iconic blockbuster Jurassic Park. However, it is a really attractive 4K Blu-ray. The transfer of this 2018 dinosaur smash hit is incredibly clean, with scenes filmed at Hawaii’s Kualoa Ranch standing out in particular. This sequel also wisely leans into animatronics once again, honoring the legacy of the legendary Stan Winston in a scene involving the T.rex’s scarred skin that looks particularly detailed in 4K.
