If Wallpaper Engine slows down your PC due to high CPU usage, it is essential to change the quality settings. This will reduce Wallpaper Engine’s CPU usage to prevent your computer’s performance from lagging. Fortunately, this is a relatively simple process.

This article will explain how to edit your settings so that your experience with Wallpaper Engine is seamless and your computer’s performance is not compromised.

Edit Wallpaper Engine settings

Wallpaper Engine quality settings are the different levels of performance and graphics at which the application operates. The different levels include: High, Low, Medium and Ultra. Each level has a different balance between performance and graphical quality of your wallpapers. An example is if you run Wallpaper Engine on Ultra, you will get the highest graphics quality, but its performance may be lower on some systems.

Here are some simple steps to change the settings of your Wallpaper Engine application and improve your computer’s performance:

  1. Start “Wallpaper Engine” and click the “Gear” icon.

Disabling or reducing general settings will also help. Experiment with different settings until you are happy with the quality of your images and the usage of your CPU. FPS settings greatly affect your computer’s performance. If your computer can’t handle 25 FPS, lower it to 15 or 20.

Updating your operating system

It is important for your computer’s performance that you are using an up-to-date operating system. On your taskbar, find “Refresh.” Download the latest update from the “Check for updates” settings window and restart your computer. This should ensure that you have fewer performance issues.

Updating your graphics card driver

NVIDIA graphics cards will enhance your GeForce Experience application. Click here and download this application to your computer system. Once the application is downloaded, open it and in the “Drivers” tab choose “Download”. This download then installs the updated GPU and only takes a few minutes.

Performance issues with specific apps or games

When you are in the game, Wallpaper Engine will be paused by default. If you want to change this, you can do so in the “Performance” tab in Wallpaper Engine settings. Most performance issues are caused by the system running out of video RAM (which is the graphics card memory) or RAM. If you want Wallpaper Engine to free up memory while you’re in-game, you can change the “Other app in full screen” setting to “Stop (free memory)” in the Performance tab in Wallpaper Engine settings. .

If you find that you are having problems with a specific software or game, you can change this just for that specific game or software by creating an “Application Rule”.

This is how you do it:

  1. Go to the “Performance” tab in Wallpaper Engine settings.

When the .exe file you used is opened, Wallpaper Engine will delete the wallpapers from memory.

How to set up a multiple monitor profile

In the app rules, “Load Profile” refers to the multiple monitor profiles that you can configure from the monitor overview. Each profile contains a snapshot of the current playlists and wallpapers for all your screens. When you load a profile, playlists and wallpapers are placed according to how you set up the profile.

Edit your playlist and wallpaper preferences for all monitors and then, in your monitor settings, click “Save Profile.” You can now save your settings using the name of your choice. If you make any further changes to the settings, your profile will not be changed unless you use the “Save Profile” option again. You can configure or assign multiple profiles to multiple applications at the same time. You can create separate profiles for Movies, Music, or Games and assign each of the profiles to all .exe files that match the categories.

Set your Wallpaper Engine to high priority

You can set Wallpaper Engine to “High priority” in the “Task Manager” if you want it to take priority over any other computer processes and run better.

  1. In “Task Manager”, right click on “Wallpaper Engine Process”.

  3. Select “High.”

Solve screensaver problems

Windows activates the Wallpaper Engine screen saver. If you are having problems with the screen saver not working as it should, check if one of the default Windows screen savers is working fine. Check your Windows power settings and Windows screen saver settings to see if your screen saver is using the correct timeout and if Wallpaper Engine has been set as the active screen saver.

You can find the installed screensaver in C:\Windows\System32\wpxscreensaver64.scr. Make sure there are no antivirus applications that accidentally delete this file or prevent its installation. To uninstall the screen saver manually, you can delete that file. However, do not delete any other Windows files in your System32 directory.

How to turn off the Wallpaper Engine screen saver

After a short period of inactivity, you don’t want any wallpaper to be full screen; You can disable it in Wallpaper Engine’s screen saver feature. To do this, open your “Windows Screensaver” settings and choose “None.” If you want to re-enable the screen saver, you can follow the same steps mentioned above.

How to restore deleted wallpapers

If you deleted any of the pre-installed wallpapers that come with Wallpaper Engine and want to restore them, you can do so by deleting a configuration file from the “wallpaper_engine” installation directory.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Turn off “Wallpaper Engine” by right-clicking on the icon in the tray and selecting “Exit.”

  3. Once you have deleted the file, start Wallpaper Engine and you will see that the default wallpapers have been restored.

Note: If you cannot locate the “visibility.json” file, you can simply reinstall Wallpaper Engine, which will restore the default wallpapers.

Change your settings for smoother performance

If your computer is experiencing lag and you would like to get the best performance from specific software or games, you can change the way your computer processes images with the Wallpaper Engine settings. Changing this will free up your computer’s resources so it can then focus on running that software or game more smoothly.
