Although the Wyze Camera devices are excellent, some of the instructions for setting them up are not as clear. Connecting a Wyze camera to a new Wi-Fi network is one of those gray areas. There is not much information about this common problem.
When you move or change your ISP, you change your Wi-Fi connection, and Wyze should have thought about that at some point. However, this process is not as complicated as it seems. Anyway, it’s pretty unintuitive and takes more time than it should.
Read on to find out how to properly connect your Wyze camera to a new Wi-Fi connection, despite any hiccups that may occur while doing so.
Change Wi-Fi connections on your Wyze camera
The best way to connect a Wyze camera to a new network or Wi-Fi connection is to treat the situation as if you were setting up a new Wyze camera. You should not delete any of the above settings or attempt to fine-tune your old Wyze Cam. Even though you’ll be using the same device, treat it as if it were new when you set up a new Wi-Fi connection.
This scenario means that you must follow the standard setup process for your Wyze Cam. If you established a connection with your camera a long time ago or forgot the steps, you’re in luck.
Remember, a Wyze camera requires a power source (power outlet or USB port), a smartphone app from App Store either Google Play Storeand an Internet connection. Since you already have a Wyze camera, you already know the drill and probably already have the app.
Make sure your app is up to date and if there are firmware updates available, do that as well. Finally, let’s move on to setting up Wi-Fi for your Wyze camera. This is what you should do.
- Start the Wyze app on your Android or iPhone.
- Sign in if you haven’t set the app to remember you.
- Connect your wyze camera toward USB port or a Plug. Wait until it flashes yellow (about thirty seconds).
- Hold the Setting button on the back of the camera until you hear the automatic message Ready to connect.
- return to the Phone application and click the Ellipse (three dots) in the upper right corner of your screen. Tap on Add a product and add your device using the correct name (Wyze Cam, Pan, Sensor, Bulb).
- The configuration window will appear; Follow the instructions and give it time if necessary.
- You will be asked to choose a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and enter your password. Wyze Cams do not work on 5GHz networks, so keep that in mind. Connect to your new Wi-Fi using the current password.
- Then, scan the QR code in the app with your Wyze Cam. When you scan the QR code, you will hear a voice command, QR code scanner. Play the I heard the voice command button.
You can now choose a new tag for your Wyze Cam using the device settings (gear icon) after you have selected it in the device list. Simply tap the name and enter a new one.
If you have more than one Wyze camera that you need to connect to a new Wi-Fi network, repeat these steps for each one until you set them all up. You can make further customizations on your own, choosing motion and sound detection, etc.

Updating firmware on a Wyze camera using the app
If you were able to connect to your Wi-Fi network, continue ahead.
- Open the Wyze app on your phone and tap Wyze Camera.
- Now click on the Settings icon at the top right of the screen.
- Then tap Device Information.
- Finally, tap Firmware version and look for the update option.
- If you don’t see the update option, then you are updated and ready to go. If so, install it.
Manual Firmware Update on a Wyze Camera
Unfortunately, if you are not connected to the Internet on your Wyze camera, you will have to update the firmware manually. Let us begin.
- Go to the Wyze Firmware and Release Notes Page and locate your camera firmware and download it.
- If you haven’t already, insert your camera’s microSD card into your computer.
- Now, extract the files to the root directory, the first folder, on the SD card.
- With the camera turned off, reinsert the microSD card into the camera.
- Next, press and hold the settings button on your camera, plug in the USB cable, and keep pressing the settings button until the light turns purple (Wyze Cam v3) or blue (Wyze Cam v2 and Wyze Cam Pan).
- Then wait up to 4 minutes for the device to reboot.
- Your camera should now have updated firmware.
