Finally, Snapchat listened to user feedback and changed the way time stickers work in their app. Previously, the time effect used to be a filter that you could add by swiping left or right when taking a Snap. This was a very elegant and useful geofilter, but it had one major flaw.
It used to obstruct the view, ruining your Snap. Now, time filters are actually time stickers, which can be easily moved around the screen to get them out of the way. Read on to learn how to get the time tag and reposition it.
Get Snapchat
Before we get into the details, make sure you download or update the latest version of the Snapchat app on your Android device or iPhone. Simply follow the links to the official app store for your respective platform and you’ll be ready to start sending Snaps right away.
Snapchat is an incredibly fun app that makes messaging much more interesting and interactive than on other social media platforms. Geofilters were always a big part of that, and two of the basic options are the location and time filter.
People used them all the time but, as we mentioned earlier, they were flawed. Since they were filters, you could enable or disable them. But there was no way to move them to the background of your photo or video. The result was an obstructed view of your gorgeous Snap, causing many users to avoid geofilters altogether.
Using the time tag on Snapchat
You don’t need to get the time tag, you already have it if you updated the app on your device. People who have used Snapchat for a long time are certainly confused by this change, which is totally understandable.
That’s why we decided to give you a short tutorial on how to use the new time sticker on Snapchat. Follow these instructions:
- Open Snapchat on your device and sign in if you haven’t already. Snapchat will remember you next time and the login process will be automated.
- Launch the Snapchat app on your Android or iPhone.
- Tap the large circle icon at the bottom of the screen to take a new Snap. You can press and hold to start recording a video instead of a photo. Snapchat will use your front or rear camera depending on your choice. To switch between the two cameras, tap the rectangular icon in the top right corner of your screen.
- After taking a Snap, tap the Stickers icon, which should be in the top right corner of the screen (between the pen and scissors icons).
- Tap the time effect, which should be the first effect in the top left corner of the screen.
- The effect will be instantly added to your Snap and you can share the Snap with your friends or edit it further.
Other Geofilters on Snapchat
You’ve probably noticed that there are other filters that were also turned into stickers. You can also add the location tag using the method above, as well as mention (tag) people or add your Snapchat QR code.
Frankly, this change is welcome. Now it’s easier to add this information to your Snaps without having to sacrifice the visibility of your photo or video. Simply put, you decide where you want to place the stickers.
How to place Snapchat stickers
Some people might think that stickers work the same as geofilters, but that’s not true. The key difference is that you can reposition the stickers wherever you want. That is how:
- Open Snapchat on your phone.
- Take a photo or short video.
- Add a sticker (like the time sticker).
- Use your thumb and index finger to “select” and pull the sticker from both sides. You can resize it this way, but also move it further away from the main photo frame. When you’re satisfied, simply release the sticker and lift your fingers.
This may seem a little temperamental until you get used to it, but it’s very useful to know. We suggest that you place your stickers to the side, below, or on top of your Snap target. As long as it’s not in the middle, I’m sure it will be fine.
What time is it?
The time sticker is one of the best Snapchat stickers. You often want to let your friends know when the Snap was taken, which is why this sticker is perfect. The geofilters were just as good, but, as we said, they couldn’t be moved around the screen.
Now you can easily reposition them and keep the focus of your Snap subject, whether you’re taking a selfie, a photo of an object, or a pet. More importantly, it’s great that the Snapchat team listens to user feedback.
