How to make concrete in Minecraft

Concrete (added in v1.12) is a vibrant and durable building material in Minecraft. Adds a great look to any project you take on in your game. Best of all, the material can be made in up to 16 colors and is not combustible like wool.

In this article, you will get the essential details on how to make colorful concrete in Minecraft Survival.

Ingredients needed to make colored concrete

The ingredients you will need to make concrete include dust, gravel, sand, and the stain of your choice. Before starting the making process, decide on the color of the material so you can work on finding the ingredients.

Here’s everything you need to make colored concrete in Minecraft.

1. Get some bones to make bone meal for white concrete

Perhaps the easiest colored concrete to make is white. The first ingredient you will need is bones, which are obtained by killing skeletons. The more bones you have, the more bone meal you will get when using a crafting table. Bone meal is required to make white concrete. For other colors, you will need dyes, as described below.

2. Kill some squid to get ink bags for black concrete

You don’t have many options for getting ink sacs in Minecraft, such as various plants or flowers. Either you kill some squid, use a cross to kill animals, search the village chests, or visit a wandering merchant.

3. Pick up some sand and gravel

Two critical ingredients needed to make white/colored concrete are sand and gravel. You can find sand near beaches and many lakes or ponds. On the other hand, gravel is found almost everywhere when digging. The mountains are an excellent source.

3. Create/collect a water bucket

This one may be self-explanatory, but find a cube in the village chests or make one with three iron ingots in a “V” shape on a crafting table.

Fill it with some water by right-clicking (or pressing the equivalent button on the gamepad) on a non-running water source (tap the water in PE). The water should be still (NOT running), such as in a pond or lake on the beach. Water is needed to turn powdered concrete into solid concrete.

4. Get your dyes to make colored concrete

The dyes (16 in total available) are made from plants (mainly flowers).

You can mix plants (cornflower for blue dye, red rose for red dye, etc.) and other selected items (inkbag for black dye, lapis lazuli for blue dye, etc.) on a crafting table to create other colors. For example, mixing a lapis lazuli (blue) or a cornflower (blue) plus a red rose produces two purple tints.

You can also make dyes by melting plants like a cactus or a sea cucumber. Wandering merchants may also have dyes available to you, and you can discover more in chests within villages. In short, you can obtain dyes through trading, chests, smelting, or crafting.
