Set up a third-party VPN on an Amazon Fire tablet
Now, installing a non-Amazon VPN is a little complicated, but it can be done without a college degree in computer science.
You will need the following:
- An active VPN subscription from a provider such as ExpressVPN
- A download link or the APK file
Here’s how to download a non-Amazon VPN app.
- Gonna Settings > Security > Apps from unknown sources and change it to In.
- Download the APK file from the VPN provider’s website.
- Install ES File Explorer from the Amazon App Store.
- Locate the VPN APK file using ES File Explorer and click Install.
There is an even faster method to do this. Instead of installing the VPN directly, you can simply install the Google Play Store app and then use it to install any other app that is not related to the Amazon store, including VPNs.

One way to use a VPN is to use the built-in VPN that comes with your Amazon Fire tablet. To configure it, you must follow a few simple steps.
- Swipe down on the notification bar to reveal the Settings icon in the right corner.
- Select Wireless connection and VPN from the Settings menu.
- Now select vpn.
- Locate the + login in the top right corner and click on it to add a new entry
- Name your VPN connection and edit all fields based on your information
- Save and return to step 4, where your new VPN should now be displayed.
- Click on it and enter your credentials. Press connect.
- If all required fields have been completed correctly, your notification bar should now feature the traditional key symbol indicating that your data is passing through the VPN.
To check if it really works, you can type “what is my ip” into Google. If you see an IP address that does not match the real one, then everything is in order.
