No one is as excited about Taylor Swift becoming a football fan as JJ Watt.
The NFL legend attended one of the first shows of his Eras Tour in Glendale, Arizona, to see the legendary singer with his wife and friends. She praised the singer and her concert the next day on social media. It’s safe to say he’s been a fan ever since, if he wasn’t already.

The respective stars were compared years ago for their similar cryptic messages about their future plans. While Swift drops “Easter eggs” regarding her music, Watt does the same. He posted a secret message about his 2021 career plans that somehow meant a trade from the Texans to the Cardinals.

So when news of Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship broke, there were few happier than Watt. He attended almost every Chiefs game (minus a few midseason games for the South American leg of their tour), generating mixed reactions from those back home.
Dads, Brads and Chads weren’t so happy that she claimed airtime during games simply for being in the crowd, but for others, Swift’s dedication meant the gap between two different worlds was bridged.
On January 25, Watt joined The Pat McAfee Show, where he has been a frequent guest, to talk about the upcoming NFL conference championship games. With the Chiefs still in the race, Swift, of course, became a topic of discussion, especially with the Super Bowl conflicts.
If Kansas City makes it to another title game, the singer may or may not be there. It closes its four-day stop in Tokyo on February 10, just one day before the big game. A week later, he will travel to Australia to perform three shows at the Melbourne Cricket Grounds. It will be their biggest show yet, with 100,000 seats in the stands. That doesn’t even include those in the field.
“But I don’t know why they show it on TV,” Watt said sarcastically.

He continued, mocking AQ Shipley’s hypocrisy towards Swift. “Hey, why are we showing you Taylor Swift? I want to watch football. Oh wait, there’s Jay-Z! Yes, Jay Z!
Shipley, who is anything but a Swift lover, tried to defend himself, saying he watches football for football, not celebrity guests. Watt wanted nothing to do with that.
“Let me ask you a very specific question. Did you enjoy your National Football League paychecks?” -Watt asked. “It would be a lot smaller if they never showed a celebrity in the game’s history.”
While Shipley disagreed with that comment, the Texans icon didn’t give up and gave credit to the fans for the reason the games are played and popular in the first place.
“‘We’re the tough guys, we don’t want to see Taylor Swift on our screen,'” Watt mimicked. “Get out of here.”
If the Chiefs win on Sunday, expect a lot of complaints about Swift from the general public, but Watt clearly won’t be one of them.
