Could history repeat itself for the Los Angeles Rams at quarterback?
Rams fans already understand that the team has given itself some flexibility in 2025 when Matthew Stafford’s contract readjustmenteffectively turning it into a one-year contract, $40 million contract and remove guarantees from 2025.
So…could that flexibility include current Dallas Cowboys star quarterback Dak Prescott?
This is something that was started by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talkwho listed seven possible destinations for Prescott in 2025 and ranked the Rams at the bottom:
“There are plenty of indications that this could be Matthew Stafford’s final season in Los Angeles. The Rams may need a replacement in 2024.
I wonder if they would be interested in a veteran quarterback whose teams have chronically underperformed?
“They were in 2021 when they traded for Stafford. They could get Dak without having to worry about their picks.”
This is going to be a polarizing event for fans. Stafford led the team to the Super Bowl in his rookie year, dealt with injuries in 2022, then threw for 3,965 yards, 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions en route to the playoffs again.
That said, he’ll also be 37 next February. If the contracts are similar as both guys look to dominate the burgeoning quarterback market, Prescott will be just 32 next summer and has a stellar resume, with 67 percent completions since 2016 and 202 touchdowns, and indeed, experience that helped turn around an underperforming program.
Prescott is likely to check the open market given his no-tag clause and that could be one of the many factors the Rams considered when reworking Stafford’s deal. Management wouldn’t be doing their due diligence if they weren’t aware of who might become available, and when.
It would make sense for the Rams to have some interest in Prescott. And while it seems like he’ll never leave the Cowboys… most people probably thought the same thing about Stafford and the Detroit Lions, right?
